Who will be PSU's "Savior Donor" when another institution or franchise comes calling for Franklin?

The U of Houston clearly has billionaire Tillman Fertitta funding their recruitment of Dana.

I'm just curious, aside from Pegula (who doesn't seem to have much interest in PSU Football Inc), which wealthy alum has the ability and willingness to "contribute some coin" in order to "maintain James"?

Pegula owns the Buffalo Bills so I think it's unfair to say he has no interest in football.

Wrt Franklin, why would PSU need help to retain him? He's already one of the 10 highest paid college coaches and he'd also be in the top 10 in the NFL. Is he going to go to Texas or USC for an extra $1 million? If so he's not really a Pennsylvania guy or a coach that's dedicated to the kids he has already recruited. I understand leaving to be near home or for a destination job but Pennsylvania is home and PSU is already a destination job. Regardless, PSU could come up with the extra $1 million if necessary.

As a lifelong Bills fan, let me say it is easy to imagine the franchise owner hates football.

Supposedly Mr. Pegula’s interest in providing more $ for any sports at Penn State has cooled though I have never heard exactly why. Shame if true.

I know that he had a major jones to see a hockey program at PSU and I'm pretty sure he's a major donor on the academic side. Was he ever really poised to provide more money to PSU athletics?

He just bought the Bills in 2014. They've been lousy for a long time before that. In fact they finally broke a 17 year playoff drought last year.

Raising your two daughters in Happy Valley as a fabulously wealth man makes it improbable that coach could be lured away. This is his dream job anyway.

PSUKnocker!

he's loaded!!!!

Well anybody who lives in Buffalo can't be too bright anyway so trying to figure him out is problematic. And if by chance if he doesn't live in Buffalo buying their sports teams is even worse.

I am going to guess that the demographics of this board skews towards mostly middle aged (plus) white males. Which means, most of us have absolutely ZERO concept of how a relatively younger black man and woman feel about raising their family in mostly white, rural, central PA.

They may think it is the greatest place in the country to raise their kids. Or, there may be other places in the country where they might prefer to live, especially when money is not an issue. Either way, it is not up to us to make that decision for them or judge them for whatever they ultimately decide to do with their lives.

I can't decide who has the most trolling finesse on the board - you or 2020. I'll go with 2020.:D

I’m surprised anybody would believe a coach that would say a job is their “dream job”.

He and his wife are middle aged, and like practically all parents out there want what is best for their kids. So, making a rather general comment about an area seems about as harmless as can be. Not sure why it even rates on anyone's outrage meter.

I don't know if I would word it exactly like that, but yes, if I had $4 billion I would not see Buffalo, NY, or any place anywhere in upstate NY, as the place to invest my money.

He's origunally from Carbondale, Pa. If you've been to both you know Buffalo is a huge upgrade.
