Somebody who is a great, not average to good recruiter, as well as a great game prep and competent in game coach. Because that is NOT what Penn State now.

The recruiting momentum right now is really in Ohio States favor. If we are having to look for a coach, it has to be someone who can best Ohio State in recruiting. There is only 1 person who can do that. It would feel dirty but you would have to pay Urban Meyer whatever it would take to get him here to take PSU to the elite level and hand them off to a guy like Ryan Day in a few years.

I don’t think Meyer would ever come here and compete directly with OSU for a variety of reasons

Luke Fickell would get us back into recruiting Ohio well again, like in the 90’s and earlier, before Jay became recruiting co-ordinator...

Unfortunately in our division and with PA recruiting nowhere near what it once was combined with some other logistical factors, the reality is that 10-3 Is probably a good benchmark going forward for this program. I don’t like that but it doesn’t change anything.

Not sure why. Evidently, at one time Meyer did entertain coaching at Penn State before the Thing blew up. Would make for a great rivalry with OSU, which the B1G seems to value.

Other than Meyer, Luke Fickell would be a good choice.

Probably true, but if we ever wanted to create major national attention and instant recruiting advantages, Urban would be the guy.

That was before he went to OSU and made them a premier program. He left on good terms and still has ties to OSU. Plus he may believe he can’t get PSU to the OSU level.

Meyer will wait for one of two of the biggest HC prizes in college football - USC or Texas. USC, with the right HC, is a guaranteed Pac 12 champ 75% of the time. Would be like Clemson in the ACC with only Oregon as a real threat every few years. Lock down CA in recruiting and you have top three recruiting classes each year. Texas is similar, but Oklahoma is a legit threat every year, and LSU recruits Texas hard. Still, one of the best recruiting hotbeds and a passionate fan base/administration and it's one of the best jobs in college football.

Good points. Reminds me of why Saban left Michigan State for LSU. Didn't think he could compete with Michigan in recruiting. He might view Penn State in that same vain with regard to Ohio State.

The B1G East is brutal. Meyer’s biggest concern at USC and Texas is the coeds...

Things blew up with Meyer and PSU because he didn’t want anything to do with dealing with the sanctions.

Exactly. It will be USC or maybe Texas - especially USC with the LA glitter, Hollywood and the strong California recruiting base.

You are wrong. Things between Meyer and PSU blew up because PSU fired Paterno without evidence or due process. Meyer said he would not work for an administration that did work like that. The sanctions hit PSU several months after Meyer said no thanks. This all came to light when a poster on this Board said he was friends with a State College real estate agent who drove Shelley Meyer around town during the fall of 2011.

Just hire JayPa. With COVID. o_O and budgets being what they are, Jay is the sensible hire. No relocation costs.

Wolvie, Wolvie, Wolvie what a busy little pot stirrer you are. I caught your act last night on the Rutgers board building up the Scarlet Knights and predicting that they will kill PSU. Other than that gem they weren’t buying your routine. You have to really pay constant homage to Schiano to gain any traction there.

Are things still working out for you on the Iowa board? You’re going to need new material on Jimmy soon also. We all know that’s a sham, but us kicking a guy when he’s really down isn’t as much fun or aggravating as when he’s fairly successful.

I have a number of coaches in mind should Franklin leave.

1. Matt Rule
2. Bronco Mendenhall
3. David Shaw
4. Bill O'Brien
5. Joe Brady
6. Jeff Brohm
7. P.J. Fleck
8. Mark Stoops

PSU is cutting programs, eliminating people, and you think they are going to fire CJF a year after signing a huge contract and hire another 4-7m a year coach? LOL

I don't think they will fire him but I think he could leave. Backing into a Big Ten Championship game appears to be our ceiling with him as head coach.

Can you please show me proof he is leaving.. You wanna know what is wrong with this team, compare last years roster to last night's roster and see what is missing. Team lost a ton of talent.
