Who's planning on going to the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont?

I've been to the last 3 ('83, '93 & '07). With weeklong passes to the most recent two. I plan on volunteering in some form next year, hopefully as a marshall or as a shot link technician.

I'll be there. I have been there for the last two, plus the Amateur and the Women's Open. This time, though, I will watch the final round from home.

I was there for the playoff in 93, and that was kind of cool. Very small crowd, comparatively, since it was a work day.

Have week long passes coming. Anybody care to tell this Oakmont rookie where to watch from or anything else cool to do while there?

There's a lot of places to park yourself and watch that are interesting. The stands around 17 and 18 are good, although 17 is better, as it is a short uphill par 4 where a lot of guys will try to drive the green, and the view from tee to green is good. You can stand around the tee area or the green of #8, which is a long par three that I think played at 238yds last time. If you are in the area between 1 and 9 you can watch the tee shots for both holes. In sum, lots of places to watch from.

Good advice from the lurker. We'll talk about this in detail in about 50 weeks. Since you are getting weeklong passes, use the practice rounds to follow your favorite players. Then you can "park it" and watch a little more during tournament play. You also will find some spots that intrigue you.

In addition to LL's. Suggestions, I like the stands behind 13, a short, uphill par three that is pretty routine except for the camel back hump in center of the green. Watching players deal with that hump (when they are on the wrong side) is very entertaining. You can also watch action on the 600 yard par 5 12th from there.

Yeah, definitely go for the practice rounds. That's more fun than the actual tournament since you can really watch these guys from close up and get a real feel for how damned good they are. It's relaxed and much more informal.

Thinking about flying in from wherever I'm living to take my Dad since it will be over Father's Day weekend and he loves golf. Just went when it was at the Olympic Course and really enjoyed it.

I'm already locked in as a 2016 Marshal. It's going to be great.

My favorite holes - There will be a grandstand at 2 green where you can see the tee, there will be the big hitters try to drive the green. If they miss - there are drainage ditches that you need a John Deere to get out of.

8 is a vicious par-3. Paula saved par with a 35-footer on the final day when she won in 2010.

IMO the catbird seat is on top of the hill for 9 and 10. 9 is an uphill par-4 (par-5 for the members) and next to it is the best hole on the course, par-4 10 going back down. 10 green is like a natural ampitheatre, just grab some turf and take the load off your feet.

Another good grandstand at 17. Short uphill par-4, players are going to go for the cheese here. beware of Big Mouth bunker on the right side. Cristie Kerr hit into here and when she went in to play the shot, she disappeared.

I wish it was going to be played next week!
