They're terrible and only occasionally pick off quality recruits of ours. Why does everyone hate them so much?

Perhaps a better viewpoint would be to ask the vermin inhabiting the Pitt board the same question in regards to PSU?
I'm from western Pa. and even though my family always were PSU people, I also followed Pitt since they were a local school. Over the years, the vitriol and out and out lies coming from Pitt fans have turned me against Pitt. I believe most of the hate comes from their end.

Those same Pitt fans will undoubtedly watch the game on TV, judging by their home attendance numbers.

Try have a civil discussion with a Pitt fan. Just try. I GUARANTEE they will bring Penn State into the discussion in an effort to not face the facts of Pitt's inferiority and mediocrity. GUARANTEED.
It's not just us, West Virginia fans hate them too and they show far more class than Pitt fans.
Ask yourself, why do Pitt fans hate Joe Paterno? His team beat Pitt to a 23-7-1 record. It's just a game. It's not life and death and yet they hate Joe. What did he ever do to them? Other than beat them consistently? They blame him for ending the rivalry. They should be thanking him for giving them one guaranteed less loss on their record. Pitt had Penn State right where they should be - off their schedule. They were just too filled with vitriol to realize the favor he did them.

Some will but remember- many of them hate Penn State more than they actually like Pitt. They will be out in droves for this 1 game. Then they will return to not attending or caring about Pitt football the next week. Should be some interesting cell phone vids from in the stadium on game day.

Their coach and athletic administrators along with their fans are @ssholes and act in a low-class manner quite often. Agree with you that on the academic side and as an academic institution, there is nothing wrong with Pitt. But on the athletic side, they have a lot of low-class, jealous douche-bags up and down that program from athletic administrators & coaches, to boosters, etc....
I never met a hardcore Pitt football fan in person or really ever followed them in general until the series with PSU was renewed. I personally would root for them to beat Notre Dame when they played and so on. My biggest mistake was going on the Liar and seeing what they have to say about the upcoming series. Most of the posters there are some of the most ignorant people I have come across. We have the same here on this message board but their hatred for PSU is on a whole different level. It will be interesting to see what happens if PSU beats Pitt this year over there.

I'm a PSU fan but not an alum, and being from the Pittsburgh area originally, often rooted for Pitt. But, after seeing the trolls and the haters at games, on TV, and the internet, I'm glad to see them lose.
I rank them with Maryland fans -- among the most obnoxious, and with the least reason to crow.
It will be an epic meltdown.

It all boils down to inferiority. We don't care much about Pitt either way and I have rooted for them in some games. But they know they are the little brother here which is why they focus so much on PSU. We get it.

Good question! A lot of the Pitt obsession here is just juvenile. It is simply a waste of time. People are Pitt haters out of habits formed in the 70s and 80s, but geez, it's been 35 years since this was any kind of a football rivalry.
Pitt is no threat to PSU. We compete for the same base, but Penn State is ALWAYS going to win that battle and that has been true since the early 70s. But there are plenty of good players to go around. Pitt's success as a football program doesn't depend on outrecruiting PSU, which they will never do.
As for what the Pitt fans say about Penn State -- WHO CARES? Why waste your time on it.
Pitt alumni largely don't care about football the way PSU fans do. They don't have the tradition (at least not any more). So when you are obsessing on the Pitt fan base, it's actually a small sliver of the overall PItt community.
What I care about, as a resident of Pennsylvania, is that Pitt is a great university, I have friends and relatives who are Pitt grads and they had a great experience and got a fine education. One could argue that Pitt's identity is a lot less tied up in football than Penn State's -- that is something Penn State fans should consider..

I've never hated anyone/anything in my life. I feel sorry for the less unfortunate.
Chances are their bosses will need the Pitt grads to work the day of the game, so they might not even get a chance to watch the game on TV. Football Saturday is a big day for pizzas deliveries.

It comes from their end... PSU has moved on past sPitt and many now don't even know sPitt as a rival. Most consider OSU and Michie more a rival. sPitt is but a distant memory. It's actually kinda comical and almost sad their obsession with everything PSU. Why it will be hilarious watching their board meltdown this fall after their azz whooping on the field. A depleted and in experienced PSU will beat them this year and with another year of recruits and experience next years beating will be of biblical proportions....
There is no easy answer to that. I know fans on both sides are concerned about incidents at this year's game, but there is no reason to worry. I've been told Pitt is calling in the KRRF.
I have only started to hate them recently. For years I rooted for them in football and basketball. I have a lot of family from Pittsburgh. However, and even though it isn't a complete depiction of their fan base, the way the fans have utilized the Sandusky affair to spread vile and lies has made me hate them. They aren't very good in any sport, but at this point, watching their programs go up in flames as they fall below mediocrity is good to see. They have one chance to win one of these 4 games coming up and that's this year. I still think PSU beats them pretty good, but I think the real beat downs are coming in years 2-4.
Maybe I'm alone, but I can't wait. Going to be a COMPLETE shiatshow. It's like when you go to those haunted houses for Halloween knowing that they are going to try to give you some abuse.
For me, I don't hate Pitt. I know a lot of Pitt grads and I root for the western PA kids that go to Pitt and play. I have been disgusted with the message board fans who became extremely rude, ignorant and over the top in their disgusting statements and comments during the Sandusky mess. I realize this is just a small sample, but they certainly did not endear themselves to PSU fans. It also irritates me in regards to the so called rivalry. We don't have a rivalry with Pitt and I would much rather play some other established programs during the non conference part of our schedule.
Tons of Pitt fans are complete idiots. Tons of PSU fans are equally complete idiots.... Ditto for pretty much all college football programs... The true idiots though are folks that make blanket generalizations of other people, while being unable to see the faults in their own team or fanbase. Its a college football game and nothing else.. I would say this board would be in equal meltdown mode if PSU loses to Pitt.... Fortunately these free boards aren't representative of most fans at any school... win or lose i will have some drinks with many psu alums and fans and have a great time... both this year and next year at happy valley..
