Theory: CJF wants to show that if you block well, you play. And if you dont block well, you will sit, at least for a bit. With a bevvy of Fr RBs, that might be a wise move.
I also thought it was a little unusual to have one FB listed on the Depth Chart. I believe it was because Salamone among other things is one of the best blockers among the RB stable. He's also a good RB, doesnt fumble, and a team guy. And as I recall, a walk-on.
Sounds like a coaches way of showing a very young team how the game is to be played here at Penn State.
Anyway, this is one sidelight among many I will be watching closely come temple game time.
