With recent flooding in Death Valley, is there now a temporary lake there?

Probably. Most of the valley floor is a salt flat. It will be a lake for a few days or weeks, however long it takes to evaporate.

I read a newspaper account this morning that said the ground there is pretty saturated, but there was no report of standing water, much less a lake. Of course there will be no small amount of evaporation, but the groundwater, such as it is, has been recharged somewhat.

It's quite startling how much water these storms that swing north and east from the Pacific (off of Mexico) can produce.
