She recanted her accusation and arrested for filing a false report. Taylor is back to being an upstanding citizen. Likely to rejoin Bama football team.

Where is our "good budy" Crimson Lights?

Maybe waiting for the next story that he can do the old passive/aggressive treatment on with regard to PSU?

Happens all the time in DV cases, sometimes because the

offender has threatened her life, sometimes because she made it up. I am sure that the hole in the wall or door that was reported came from a meteorite, too.

Happens a lot. They know they will be believed 100% of the time.

Hell hath no fury. Also doing a major disservice to the majority of women who are assaulted.

Let's not be so hasty. Charges are dropped all the time because of threats.

The police gathered evidence of injuries and damages at the house. Let's just see what plays out.

That's why it is best to let it play out

and that whole trivial thing called the constitution and bill of rights.

Convenient that this new information suddenly clears the accused. We have to take this new information with a grain of salt, and stick with the original trumped up media rush to judgement. They can not rewrite history here with this "new information". I would be skeptical even if the Attorney general, or even the lead prosecutor cleared the accused.

OTOH, there is no constitutional right to play Fb for Alabama.

He should never have been given this chance anyway.

How badly was she threatened??? Give me a freakin' break!

I agree... second chance is not going to jail...

it doesn't mean that you get to remain a privileged college football player.

Re: Happens a lot. They know they will be believed 100% of the time.

What do you mean it happens a lot? What happens a lot is no report at all or the victim recants-especially in the case of domestic disputes. i read the woman had marks on her neck.

Slightly different standard between playing fb and

going to jail. He is still charged with a crime in Alabama.

As a prosecutor who has prosecuted multiple domestic violence cases I can tell you that a victim recanting is the norm in these types of cases. It is very rare that a female doesnt recant, especially in cases where they are not hurt that bad. It os always shocking when they dont recant. There are various reasons they recant, fear, now that the danger has passed they dont want to see the negative consequences for their lover that comes with the charge etc., and sometimes they lied. They usually only initially lie when initially reporting if they have something to gain ( upper hand in divorce, immigration) or if they are crazy. I did see lies as a prosecutor, but by amd large recanting usually done to try to help out there partner.

I have been involved in these issues but not as a lawyer. Your post

tracks my experience.

is that better than being charged and then dropped? Anybody can

be charged with a crime. seems to me you either have a reasonable belief someone is guilty or not.

This is the most reasonable post. We have no idea what did or didn't happen but as the kid apparently has a track record- I get how some are ready to jump him. No need to be jury and executioner now. It will work out through the system.

Not so sure those charges were dropped.

"A spokesman for the Tuscaloosa Homicide Department, which is handling the case, said the charges against Taylor will likely be reviewed within the next month. The spokesman said the department will look to review the charges in a 'timely manner.'"

In my understanding, what the police will do is examine what the evidence is like using the victim's statement that she gave the cops and the physical evidence. No guarantee they will be dropped.

As for her, she lied one time or the other.

He is still facing felony charges in GA. WTF was he doing on a CFB team?

Once Richt booted him, that should have been it.

So if I am "accused" I shouldn't be allowed to work, even if

they chose to not indict me but reserve the right to do so down the road, should new evidence come to light.

Great...there are a lot of people I want to accuse of stuff and ruin their lives.

nice country you live in.

police don't decide charges, they recommend them, the district attorney's office will decide the charges. A D.A. should not charge unless the proof meets a certain threshold of probability of being able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

A lot of times you hear that someone has been "cleared" by the police or D.A. when the D.A. rejects charges, but that is often not the case. Usually, when a D.A. refuses to file charges it is just because they do not believe they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt (the criminal legal standard), it does not necessarily mean that they believe the suspect is innocent)..

At will employment means you can be fired for no reason at all.

Even if you have a contract you can be fired for good cause. Employer does an investigation, bing, bang, boom, on the street. That is how it IS. I did not make those rules.

And being a CFB player is not a job. AND, in this case he has been charged, and the charges have not been dropped.

It always astonishes me to hear how upper middle class people think employment law works.

You do not have to be found guilty of a crime to lose your job OR your FB scholarship. Worst case they can boot him off the team and refuse to honor his schollie after 1 year anyway.

I wish the law could make people be nice, but it cannot. And employers have been making the rules for a long time now.

Lots of people especially right here believe that if you are not convicted

of a crime, you cannot lose your job or your scholarship. Just not so, and for most of them, in the rest of their life they are happy with that.

I don't recall asking your opinion

I only postulated that it is unfair and unjust.

Actually you suggested I was somehow responsible for the

state of the law you still do not understand. Working folks get hosed by this all the time.

Re: He is still facing felony charges in GA. WTF was he doing on a CFB team?

I was referring to the curent Alabama case where the lady apparently now recanted. I don't know the details of what went on in Georgia but if he's currently awaiting trial then it's up to Saban/ UA to decide what to do in the interim. I don't think you're really surprised that an SEC school turned a blind eye to any behavior/ academic/ personal/ legal issues-........as long as it was a good athlete involved. ;)

believe me, I know exactly how the law works

and this is the same mindset that allowed the BoT to fire Joe Paterno, to hurt the career of Scott Paxson and so on and so forth.

While I respect the accusers right to bring charges, i also respect the legal threshold of "innocent until proven guilty" and the right of an employee to sue the police for wrongful arrest and the employer for wrongful termination. And, trust me on this, I know more about "right to work" laws than you do. Right to Work does not hold if your constitutional rights have been violated. for example, you cannot be let go because you are black or jewish. You have every right to sue if you've been terminated while your constitutional rights have been violated.

Don't worry. I am really struggling to think of ONE TIME where demlion has taken a strong stance that he has been anthing close to resembling correct. If there is one maybe someone could share the info.

Re: Happens a lot. They know they will be believed 100% of the time.

It does happen a lot. You are correct that a lot of assaults go unreported, but it is just as true that a lot of men are falsely accused. That is why I am uncomfortable with men being suspended based solely on an accusation. I think that there should be no suspension until charges are at least filed.I also think that when it is proven that a women falsely accuses a man of sexual assault she should be charged with a crime. I am not talking about a case where a man is aquitted because the case couldn't be proven in court. But, when there is clear evidence she lied the punishment should be severe. There have been a couple instances recently when a prosecutor declined to file charges when it was clear that a man was falsely accused because they were afraid it would discourage women from reporting assaults.
