McSorley cannot be the best. because the sports pundits who counted us out after the loss to Michigan are now whining that the 2 best teams in the Big Ten are not playing for the championship. How can that be???

That's awesome but how did that MD kid make the list? He was horrible.

After watching yesterday, I am really surprised Tyler O'Connor is on that list and Mitch Leidner isn't.

O'Connor had some happy feet in the pocket. There were several plays where he did not stand tall in the pocket long enough to execute the throw properly. They all ended up as grounders without a chance.

Great job by Trace, his receivers, and good pass protection, which is aided by Trace's scrambling ability.

The passing success is also partly due to the attention that #26 has drawn from opposing defenses. That's been a case of opponents winning a battle and losing the war -- some defenses have been able to limit Barkley, but not do that AND defend the pass.

Indeed. And #26. The play action sure works nicely with a guy like that in the backfield, especially since he blocks like a mule kick after the fake.

Could he be the All Big-Ten first team QB? That would be something.

I think McSorley is a better QB than Barrett. Barret is a better runner but not as good of a passer but I think Barrett had a stronger OL.

That said I must admit that I struggle with the PSU offense. Lots of negative plays in the running game and few intermediate range passes. PSU lives on the long bomb which is great when it works. It's worked a lot lately but it sure would be nice to grind out a drive with a mix of runs and short passes. Maybe I'm just too old fashioned.

Something that really works is Barkley's blocking. That seems to go unnoticed but I think he's one of the best blocking RBs PSU has had.
I started a thread about Barkley's blocking after the game last night. My friend and I were watching him at the game last night. He was nails in pass protection. His improvement from last year and throughout the season has been remarkable. One helluva complete football player. I will edit my previous post.

Kind of like the criticism Bradley was receving when the PSU scoring D was finishing in the top ten nationally. I admit I didn't like the bend but don't break approach. Still, at the end of the day the object of the D is to limit the other team from scoring and maybe score a few yourself along the way.

And still underrated by some PSU fans who think this is all the product of a system and that our 2nd string QB could be just as effective.

Kid is going to be an all-time great here when all is said and done.
If that's the case, I love the System

Trace has been nothing short of outstanding. JoeMo's offense is perfectly suited to him. His pocket presence and in pocket ability to scramble has been great.

The WR's have an uncanny ability to catch 50/50 balls. I've never seen anything like that. Most of our WR's are large and often go against 5-10, 185 lb CB's. For example, Sparty's true freshman CB was getting killed. While he's 6-2, he's only 185. The other CB is 5-10 185. Godwin; 205, Blacknall; 215. Johnson 220.

Sparty played these guys 1 on 1 with their S in run support. When Trace had time, he could just toss it out there and let our larger WR's make a play. Without Barkley, the S would be in double coverage.

Regardless all of that, TM has (as an inexperienced RS Soph) taken what the defense has given and JoeMo has been dialing up the right schemes.

I was thinking the same thing. And to your point, I believe we may have seen the final game where opposing coaches game plan to stop Barkley and roll the dice with State's passing game. The running game will only get better.

What can I say? The point production has been amazing. It's like we don't score much down low but we hit 70% of our 3pt shots.

Pretty damn impressive considering he's too short, too slow and has a weak arm.

Amazing he hasn't qualified for handicapped parking on campus!

I was never worried about his arm but I admit I was worried about his height and being able to see over 6'6" linemen. I was clearly wrong. He hasn't had many passes batted down this year. Maybe that's why he throws deep instead of short. He can throw the long ball with a higher trajectory.

Trace's intangibles and what's between the ears are his strongest assets. He doesn't make many mental mistakes, he doesn't throw into coverage, he didn't throw too many picks, he has good vision of the field, he's gutsy, he's a leader, he never gives up, he never gets down, etc. etc.

Given the way Barrett pissed the bed on November, he absolutely SHOULD be

He won't be - the talking heads will abuse themselves over talk of how many TDs Barrett accounted for (ignoring his D1-AA level play down the stretch), as they place him on the all-conference teams

Wake me up when Barrett completes a pass over 20 yards downfield.
