Wyoming finally updated their roster, so I’m heading out to where the deer and the antelope play. Fun fact: Bucks County has a larger population than the entire state of Wyoming.
125 – Foster (Jr) <Post Falls, ID>
Drake Foster went 19-12 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament. His best win was against NCAA qualifier, Sergio Mendez (CSUB).
133 – Bridges (So) <Altus, OK>
Montorie Bridges went 35-7 on the season and finished to seed, placing 8th in the tournament.
141 – Turner (So) <Discovery Canyon, CO>
Sam Turner went 25-17 on the season and 0-2 at the tournament @149. He’s dropping back down to take over for 3-time AA Bryce Meredith (2nd in 2018, 4th in 2017, 2nd in 2016).
149 – Hornickle (Sr) <Burlington, WI>
Ben Hornickle finally gets his chance at being the full time starter. He went 22-7 last season, with his best win coming against Turner.
157 – Krueger (Jr) <Oconto Falls, WI>
Dewey Krueger went 15-7 (2-2 in duals) last season. He takes over for 2-time qualifier Archie Colgan (1-2 in 2018, R12 in 2017).
165 – Ashworth (Sr) <Spanish Fork, UT>
Two-time qualifier Branson Ashworth returns for his final season at Wyoming. He went 36-6 on the season and 2-2 at the tournament from the 14 seed. He got sent to the consolation bracket the last two years by Vincenzo Joseph.
174 – Lombardo (Sr) <Bethlehem Catholic, PA> or Randles (Fr) <Coeur d’Alene, ID>
Anthony Lombardo transferred in from Binghamton where he went 22-10 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament. Casey Randles went 28-5 in his redshirt season (no wins against NCAA qualifiers). The new starter will be taking over for Kyle Pope went 24-12 and didn’t qualify for the tournament last season.
184 – Looney (Fr) <Laramie, WY> or Moody (Fr) <Bingham, UT>
Careless Looney (what a name) went 17-5 in his redshirt season (no wins against NCAA qualifiers). Incoming freshman, Cole Moody is a 3-time Utah state champion. The new starter will be taking over for Chaz Polson went 28-13 overall and 1-2 in the tournament last season.
197 – Davidson (Fr) <Goddard, KA>
Cale Davidson went 18-2 in his redshirt season (no wins against NCAA qualifiers). He’s taking over for Cody Vigoren (7-12) and Luke Paine (4-3) who ended the year as the starter.
Heavy – Andrews (So) <Grapevine, TX> or Mullins (So) <Orting, WA>
Brian Andrews transferred in from Northeastern Oklahoma where he went 13-1. His biggest win was against Ethan Anderson of OSU. Hunter Mullins went 7-14 last year for Wyoming. They will be replacing Sam Eagen who went 16-14 last year and didn’t qualify for the tournament. It looks like he forgoed his last year of eligibility.
Wyoming has a lot of turnover from last year losing 6 starters. They return 1 AA (Bridges) and 2 other qualifiers and lose 1 AA (Meredith) and 2 other qualifiers. The Cowboys are unlikely to replicate their 17th place/27.5 point performance from last year. Nothing against Cole Moody but I will be cheering for Careless Looney. It’s not his fault that his parents are odd.
