Let's take emotion out of the discussion and delve deeper into the o-line breakdowns than assuming Donovan, Franklin, et al are in over their heads. Both Donovan and Franklin have been in the NFL, been at MD, Vandy and now PSU. Both have been coordinators and play callers. Obviously they have seen every kind of blitz and pressure package there is. None of this could possibly be new to them, right?
My question - what is the PSU staff doing to attack the blitz? Is it a sound approach that is not bein executed? What are they failing to do that they should be doing? Speaking for myself, I lack the in depth x and o knowledge to address this. I have always heard the way to attack blitz/pressure is by throwing quick slants (we completed one to Hamilton but that's all), bubble screen, jail break screen (did not see any), maybe going with 5 WR's and then keeping 2-3 of those in to block to allow the line to slide the protection to where the pressure is coming from; quick passes to the space where the blitz is coming from....
Are any of these techniques being used? And the bigger question to some of the coaches and savvy guys, can you discern what the staff us attempting to do to counter the pressure? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
