Your chance to meet Grantland writer Michael Weinreb

He is a state college native and as with all things there's a small connection to mike and my dad as he was on a little league team with mike that dad coached. I see his mom on occasion. Hope he stops by the shop.

Is his father the famous chemistry professor at PSU?

This is Nancy Weinreb. She's lived here for more than 30 years, worked in the university library. Her husband is a professor of organic chemistry, and she knows all the higher-ups involved in this thing. Maybe not well, but just socially, or knows people who knows them. The Spaniers, the Curleys, the Schultzes, She knows Mrs. Schultz...

I met Nancy Weinreb through her son, Michael Weinreb. Michael is a sportswriter. He wrote a book all about football in the 1980s, a large chunk of which is about Penn State, actually. And he's a columnist for this new online magazine called Grantland. He's been writing great columns since the story erupted two weeks ago. At least half a dozen people told me about them. They're circulating like crazy here. Because he's a local, and he's just as disoriented as we are.

I am not sure I have met me weinreb.... Mrs weinreb comes in the shop on occasion. I don't know any of them outside of the contexts mentioned.

Funny at some point dr erikson's twins played on the team too can't remember if they were all at same time.

Thanks. I'm a chemist and never met Prof. Weinreb at PSU, but met him when I was a graduate student at Illinois and he visited to give a lecture. Nice guy. He's a well known researcher in organic chemistry circles, known for the "Weinreb Amide", among other things.
The Chemistry Dept. at PSU is very productive. Stephen Benkovic is another PSU chemist who is quite well known. I'm sure there are others. I knew some older ones, now retired, who were renown in their areas of specialization.

That is from last year

As I stated in another venue.....its never a good idea to parade over bridges you have burned.

It's a good program.
