Your diet @ PSU? Mine was McLen. $1.99 hoagies, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, Chicken&rice, fruit, cereal,

including, treating myself to Hoss's once a month as well as Pizza specials throughout the week and KFC all you can eat on tuesday night. This was around the years 92-96

Dorms - Chicken Cosmos
Frat - DP Dough, College Pizza, Uncle Chens, Acme

La Bamba burritos "as big as your head".

Gumby's pizza and Pokey sticks.

D.P. Dough calzones.

All you can eat spaghetti night at the Corner Room.

Lots of Ramen.

Too funny, had a frat brother who was addicted to late night LaBamba. One drunken night he said to the dude, "Give me my burrito you greasy mexican", or something like that with some f-bombs thrown in. They took his picture with a Poloroid and banned him for life. After that he'd pay for yours if you went to get him one. Good times.

1963-64 Herlocher's chicken or tuna salad subs
1965 on - Lions Den cheeseburgers, Phyrst cheeseburgers, Gus's cheesesteaks

The beginning of the quarter, Cattle Car Italian hero, cosmo style and Roy Rogers all u could eat salad bar. Later in the quarter, scurf sandwiches...toast, tomato, lettuce and mayo, could not afford the bacon

They had a square cut shop on Garner (? Where bbq blue is). And there was the Cattle Car, predecessor of c.c.peppers.
Yep. That's actually the type of pie I was talking about and didn't make clear. I don't think I ever tried one of their round pies. This was square cut Sicilian.

I didn't do it at the Corner Room but
Zenos did a thursday night (not sure if it was all you can eat) Spahgetti and meatballs.

i remember the $1.99 hoagies at McLanahan's. They had 99 cent per pound potato or macaroni salad and a soda machine with 25 cent sodas. So for $3.00 you got a hoagie, half pound of salad, and two cans of soda. I even think once per week they had $1.50 or $0.99 cent meatball hoagies.

Brother pizza delivered for $5.00 a large pizza, wasn't that good but it was cheap.

They had a coupon in the paper for buy one get one free meals at the Diner I think for Wednesday night.

Herlochers. I worked there in the late 60's and hated working Steamed Clams night or all the spaghetti you can eat night. Place would become a zoo and we were invariably short handed

Chicken Cosmo, salad, and soda/water. West Halls cookies once in a while but rarely. I can't say how many of the Cosmos I ate but it had to have been hundreds. Kind of messed up now that I think about it.

I worked in Findlay dining hall, so I never had to stand in line for meals, and could eat early. Friends would often meet at the FUB in the evening for a burger and a shake - 50 cents.

Most of my classes were in Furgeson, and it was across from the Creamery. We'd get a cone there, and sometimes a sub if we couldn't make the dining hall for lunch.

Downtown was Herlocher's, HiWay Pizza (thinking the square pie had a piece of pepperoni on it - good pie), and after a night of festivities, we would grab a bite at the NCD.

Susie Wong Egg Rolls
The Cattle Car/CC Peppers
Roy's roast beef and fried chicken
Meyer's Dairy for milk shakes
The A&P off of Westerly and Atherton had the best fried chicken...EVER
Highway Pizza for beer and slices
The Skeller for fried chicken sandwiches and a box of rocks

Went to Shippensburg in early 80's and was just telling my kids about those 25 cent boxes of mac and cheese. To make it a real meal, we'd cut up hot dogs and mix them in with the mac and cheese. Great times!

Dog-a-Roni!! Awesome.

For me--steak-ums and Bubbas Subs.

A lot of bad pizza, being from NJ and living with a guy from Queens and another from LI, we used to laugh at the crappy pizza we ate in SC. One place put breakfast sausage on pizza? That was in the 80's things could have only gotten better I would think.
Sunday morning was Italian subs from the Bakery, still one of the best I ever had. We also ate alot of spaghetti, chili, and tacos we made ourselves in our off campus apartment.

This is a fun thread...brings back many great memories.

After two years in the dorms I moved downtown for Junior and Senior years and then stayed for another 1.5 years in Grad school, so I got 3.5 years of food preparation!

Weis at corner of Beaver and Pugh. I lived directly across from the Sheraton (now Days Inn) and would stop most days and grab something to cook for dinner. My roommate and I cooked some elaborate meals as well as the usual mac n cheese with tuna casserole, etc.
When not cooking I liked;

Suzy Wong's - most days for lunch I would get a ham n cheese on onion bagelwich and an egg roll.

Vesuvio's - best stromboli in State College IMO.

Roy Rodgers - an endless diet pepsi and a burger fixed the way I like...with macaroni salad next to it along with a salad on the other side.

The Train Station - nothing like a late night beer to along along with a pound or two of their pretzels and mustard.

Weis Market Mac and Cheese. $0.25 a box circa early '80's. Also Susie Wong Egg Rolls.....from the location on College Ava and also at The Brewery on Saturday nights. At the time I thought they were the best things in the world.

Tahoka Freeway and then Susie Wong Egg Rolls later. Couldn't bear that.

Any one remember a small place called Munchies in the late '70's? I'd go there for breakfast on game days, when I could afford it. But you could get breakfast for a buck with coffee. Waffle Shop was a splurge on game day.

Appropriately named. Now that was a place!

My father gave me a big was of cash at the beginning of each semester for food and other necessities. I would usually ride up with my neighbor who had a car and kept it on campus. We would stop at this roadside market and buy a 50lb. sack of potatoes for practically nothing. We ate potatoes for breakfast lunch and dinner so we could spend our money on beer. So I guess I was on a beer and potato diet. Amazingly, we both lost weight doing this...lol.

I forgot to add one that you may remember. I would go once or twice a term for the Hare Krishna's free vegetarian feast that they held weekly on Tuesday? night. It was a recruiting gig for them, but the food was very good, free, and I got to hold some lively debates. Good times!

McLanahan's used to have a coupons for 20 packs of ramen for a buck.

Pizza Pi North had 16in pizzas for $3.99.

Wendy's $0.99 menu: Double Stack, baked potato & a side salad for $3.15 = fairly balanced meal

There used to be a food service/bulk store in the Hamilton Plaza that had great deals, provided you were willing to buy things such as 5lb boxes of pasta, etc.

BiLo grocery used to have a 2ft sub called the Riverboat that was really cheap.

The Weis on Westerly used to the pre-sliced lunch meat & cheese, as well as the ends that were left at the end of the day, wrap them up and sell them less than half price. Their bakery left over shelf had cheap bread and rolls.

There used to be a bar on NAtherton near the Sheetz, can't remember the name but it was an A-Frame type building. They used to have some pretty good all you could eat deals.

When the wallet was flush, Bubba's Breakaway.

Forgot that on Sunday about noon, roomies and I would head to the Red Barn for a Big Barny. It was so greasy and helped to absorb the alcohol. Red Barn was a McDonalds type franchise in central PA.

McLanahan's carried those old Archway Chocolate Icebox cookies. Sadly, they don't make them anymore.
