USA Hockey 1980
Sidney Crosby

I was at a bar with my brother in law in 1988. The whole place came to a standstill to watch Brian Boitano battle against Brian Orser. I told my brother in law that I didn’t realize men’s figure skating could be used as crowd control in a bar.

Of course the US hockey team is still the best sports story of my lifetime.

Flag.

C'mon - you know the rules.

This is not your first time - we may have to refer you to the Disciplinary Board for further actions.
I didn’t speak to her hotness, but followed up with a penalty-inducing post. I’ll indulge you in a second

Elvis Stojko. How can you not love a guy named Elvis?

Eric Heiden. When you consider he won gold at five different distances - OUTSIDE!! The 80 Men’s Hockey Team obviously owns my heart, but to pick one specific athlete, it will always be Eric Heiden. Amazing accomplishment.

Fraulein Witt (at 50)

Ex-wife was Scott Hamilton's attorney and he became a close family friend. After Stars on Ice skated at the Spectrum in the mid 1990s, we rode back to their center city hotel on the SOI bus. My 3 year old son insisted on sitting on Katerina's lap the entire bus ride. Neither I nor his mother could entice him away from her and after arriving at the hotel we dragged him away crying and fussing. I was surprised he wasn't speaking German afterward.

Nice list. I have to add Ms. Vonn, and The 1980 Hockey team, otherwise they'll take away my Minnesota card...

And also a pro cyclist. Amazing athlete.

If you do nothing else before you die, go to lake placid to visit the 80 rink, and then, go outside and take a couple of loops on the oval where Heiden won his medals.

I have a short-term memory but thanks to a poster above I remembered Tomba. Here are some that come to mind.

Alberto Tomba
Lindsey Vonn
Shaun White
Bode Miller
Eddie the Eagle
Hermann Maier

You sure it wasn’t a gay bar? I’ve never been in a bar when people watched dudes figure skating. I jest.

Me neither, that’s why it was so surprising. It wasn’t usually a gay bar but it turned into one that evening apparently.
