Barring something drastic, it won't change the team race but it's definitely an annoying part of it. Iowa will get 7 shots at bonus to our 2 in the first round. Similarly, medical forfeits always happening in conferences skews the team race a lot also. Obviously that's something that's way more likely to happen on the backside.

Remember it being a huge thing in 2023, Iowa was within 15 or something at Big Tens and lost by 55 at NCAAs.

And obviously, we've lost Big Tens 3 times and won NCAAs including twice by blowout margins (2017, 2022) There's a reason why Cael treats this as a qualifier as part of a plan to peak in late March.

It might be the difference in 7 team points. Having a bye only keeps you from gaining bonus points. The advancement points are the same if you win the next match.

Unless the team race is close like 2018 NCAAs these byes are probably more helpful than not.

If they only consider "best win" to be within conference, then that's true. Otherwise, Lovett also beat McNeil and Realbuto, who are both much better than Roberts.

But if they look at overall record, then Parco has also beaten McNeil, and has beaten significantly more ranked guys than either Lovett or Van Ness. So there's a case for him getting the 1 too. In which case, then Lovett gets the 2 for beating Shayne H2H.
