I know we're a few years away from this being in place...but THE 12-Team PLAYOFF is fun to dream about. Using the AP rankings today, this is what round 1 would look like.

(as of Oct. 17)

BYES—#1 Georgia (SEC champ), #2 Cincinnati (AAC champ), #3 Oklahoma (Big 12 champ),#5 Ohio State (Big 10 champ)

#12 Ole Miss At #4 Alabama

#11 Iowa At #6 Michigan

#10 Oregon At #7 Penn State

#9 Michigan State At #8 Oklahoma State

(In the real world, a committee would put Notre Dame (#13) ahead of Ole Miss (#12). Notre Dame playing at Bryant-Denny Stadium in mid-December would be a ratings bonanza.)

If PSU won their opening round game, they'd likely find themselves squared off against Cincinnati in a bowl game on New Year's Day. I like our chances against both those teams, so if we found a way to win those, we'd be against Oklahoma (or Michigan...or Iowa) in the semi-finals.

Honestly, that would be a fun tournament to watch.

I totally agree any committee would put ND at Bama rather than Mississippi at Bama (again).

Imagine that first-round weekend! Probably a Friday night game and then three on Saturday.

Friday night 8pm...Oregon at PSU.
Saturday 4p...Iowa at Michigan
7p...ND at Alabama
9:30...Michigan State at OkSt

Oregon, Cincy, probably Oklahoma. Nice draw.

Edit - Giving Okey too much credit. Probably Okey/Michigan winner in 3rd game. Iowa is who we thought they were. I'm not entertaining Iowa making it that far. Still a good draw.

Don’t like twelve teams with four teams getting a bye. Eight is fine and play it out.

And eight is more likely so that the SEC doesn’t get three or more, especially after UT and OU joining.

Nah, I'd prefer to get left out because Tom Osborne finally deserves his national championship.
