After a poll and much debate, young Mr. Bartlett ended all discussion tonight. As a true freshman, he got the cleanest (and only?) TD of the season against the defensive wizard and guy I think is the best 149 pounder in the country.

You can yammer on and on about how “he looked small”, but no other 49er on our team makes that TD. None.

We have our man and I think he’ll be an All-American this year. Mark it down.

If he weighed in at 148.6 today, I feel way better. Even if that's without cutting, being close to the weight limit is good. I was worried he was going to be like 139.

We have to keep in mind the eye test often fails for weight. I was convinced J'Den made some massive cut for 92KG but he mentioned he weighed in 198 the day of Final X (only 6 more than Bo)

BB is all in for 149 at least this year. I don't think he can make it back to 141 with descent rules.

I worry how he is going to hold up against full size 149s in the BIG and NCAA tournaments. He may weigh just under 149, but he isn't a 149 lb wrestler. He did give Sasso a hell of a match today though.

Beau did not look all that outsized to me.He gave a number 2 RS JR.
,Sasso, a heck of a match in his debut.

I was surprised but I believe because Cael sent him out against Sasso, he will be the guy at 149.

I hope everyone keeps expectations in line. While Sasso is a defensive wizard, he certainly isn't on offense. All that said BB looked confident and ready.

You have to go with Beau moving forward. What he lacks in weight he makes up for in ability. As a true frosh wrestling his debut match on the road against a hammer he competed for 7 minutes and looked strong. Sure he struggled from bottom against a good top wrestler but boy did he look good on his feet.

Like other have pointed out I don't think any other guy we have at 149lbs can take Sasso down and Beau did it with style. It was quick and he finished with authority. Sasso definitely big brothered him a bit on his takedown, though. You'll have that with a TRFR going up against a junior. Beau will only get better and anyone watching that has to be impressed by Beau Bartlett. This kid is going to win a couple of titles.

After rewatching the replay, I was amazed at how energetic he looked after 7 minutes with Sasso, especially given how hard he worked to escape in that third period. After the final whistle, he jumped up, shook hands and sprinted off the mat looking like he could go wrestle another match..

I think it's pretty much a lock that Cael goes with Bartlett from here forward - be shocked if he isn't the starter @49 against MD. One of the reasons Cael would have sent against Sasso is because Bartlett stood to benefit from that match a lot more than Sasso - Nico's trFR year being a good example... he lost quite a few matches to some really good wrestlers during the regular season, but then using what he learned from these matches, Nico flipped the results on these opponents in the postseason and made it all the way to the Finals at NCAAs. Would not have had the same results if he'd avoided top-ranked opponents during regular season and only seen them for the first time in postseason. We learned that the gap between one of the best, if not the absolute best, 49 lbers in the nation and Beau is not that great. Beau showed that he has the ability and potential to go deep into the postseason tournaments - what he learned yesterday will pay huge dividends over the next couple weeks imho.

The true freshman from Michigan State took Sasso down twice, though I agree with the cleanest. That kid a greco wiz and Sasso went upper body with him twice and lost.
