Match Thread MSU dual thread - Jan 10

You must be the Bartles and James era, ?
Or Zima?

Real men drink Mickey's Big Mouth, when the bottle had a pull top like a can.
:D
My go to is mostly Double IPAs. Voodoo Ranger Imperial 9% and Dogfish 90 min. 9% If I really want a quick night, I will go with Flying Dog Double Dog IPA 12%.
There is a new one (its good) that is 9.2%....can't remember the name right now. Tonight it is Elysian Space Dust 8%. Soon I won't remember much at all.......except 55 to Zilch :)

After the PSU dual I watched the B10 wrestling special about two brothers who attended Wisconsin, one who went on to coach there. Nice story, but I was shocked to see the wrestling room in Madison. Looked like my high school wrestling room......and that wasn't very nice. I understand not all wrestlers commit to a school because of the facilities, but that room looked like something out of the '50's. Are the Badgers investing much into their program? I know there was an earlier thread about "What's going on in Madison?" It's probably the coaching and recruiting, but those facilities aren't helping.

IMO Space Dust in a bottle, which I have enjoy many times, smells like weed.
That's not a bad thing

I had read something to the effect of Wisconsin would only be funding half the 9.9 wrestling scholarships allowed.

I’m worried about wrestling come revenue sharing next year. Look at Michigan. Look at Michigan State. Look at Wisconsin. What is happening?

When’s the last time the B1G was this underrepresented in the rankings?

Troegs Nugget Nectar at this time of year. it is seasonal, and my favorite beer.

The most active thread on the Iowa wrestling forum is an argument about the constitutional right to yell stalling at a wrestling match.

On the Rutgers forum, fights are about to break out between Malcolm Rivers and those that challenge him.

Yeah - this forum is kinda boring in comparison come to think of it.
In Iowa if they can't yell "heeeessss staaaalllllinnnnn!" it's going to be a very quiet gym.

wow domination!!
I did not realize that Michigan State did not have a single wrestler ranked in the top 33 at their weight. They have a freshman at 197 who has is currently 23rd, but was not in the line-up today. May well be red-shirting. Has a Big Ten team ever sent nobody to the NCAAs? That has to be pretty rare.

It amazes me how much the wrestling landscape has changed. When I was in college, MSU had one of the best programs. In 1972 they had 3 NCAA champions. Nowadays, when people tune into BTN and watch them get demolished like today, I don’t know how they will ever be able to attract any decent talent to rebuild their program.

Oh no. You have to read thru it yourself.

Starts at posts 11 and 12
Thanks and yikes.

Weh8st8hawk is at least smart enough to realize (but only after he'd argued himself into a corner) that first amendment violations require a state actor, so he characterized the police officers as enforcing the referee's "you can't yell stalling" order.

Another poster--The-Dude-Abides--has enough of a grasp of con law that I was like, okay, here's someone to restore sanity, but then he essentially agrees with Weh8st8hawk, lol.

If police officers at a public high school sporting event enforced a referee's decision to eject certain fans over certain speech (yelling "stalling"), you might genuinely have a first amendment problem.

But that's not what happened. The ref kicked everyone out, and I'm reasonably sure he'd characterize his decision as being in the best interest of the kids or something similar. Whether the ref overreacted (I'll guess probably) isn't relevant to first amendment analysis.

Online first amendment discourse often finds people confusing privileges for rights, and this is a good example of that. Also lost in this discussion is some consideration for the type of speech at issue--yelling at high school referees is further down the list than, say, political speech.

If the Iowa state legislature passed a bill prohibiting yelling "stalling" at high school wrestling matches, that would indeed be actually a good idea constitutionally suspect. But you can't get there by bootstrapping a referee's snap decision to eject spectators.

Well, if your goal is to be a four year starter, it's a pretty good place. ;)

Wrestle stat has penn st beating neb. 33-0 but first 5 matches are real close. Don't think they will shutout Nebraska, so I expect a loss at 125 or 133 and maybe 157. 8-2 or 9-1 with good guys winning 30 -3
I would go in order of highest likelihood of losing a match:

125
157
141
149
133
174
197
184
165
285

The Penn State wrestler would be favored in every one. The first five matches would all be fairly similar odds. I would set the o/u for total losses at 1.5 just like you referenced.

The entire dual, or "Full Game," is on B1G+ now.

Here's PBP for Kerk:
285 - Greg Kerkvliet VS Max Vanadia

Period 1:
Kerk is coming forward off the whistle. He drops to a leg & gets a quick TD, 3-0. Kerk cuts Vanadia, 3-1. Kerk comes forward, snaps & comes behind for another TD, 6-1. Kerk cuts Vanadia, 6-2. Kerk is pressing forward. Vanadia shoots, Kerk counters & gets another TD, 9-2. Kerk locks up a tight cradle & takes Vanadia to his back for the fall!

Greg Kerkvliet FALL Max Vanadia (56-sec)

Difference is back then they had a 158 pounder who would debate the other team to death.
