Which PSU Board do you think will be “the” PSU Board?

Maybe. But I work in technology and I’m willing to bet I can run rings around you in my technological understanding. I am simply choosing to not waste anymore time on Penn State or any of the sports. I just don’t want to invest the time into BS.

That's powerful man!

Can you hack into those Russkie computers and cause them a world of hate?

I'll pay for it!

I enjoy the testboard here but follow football on On3. That being said, I have noticed that I don't pay attention to the recruits nearly as much as I used too, I don't even bother reading their interviews any longer.
The free agency of college football has essentially killed any interest in following kids as they rise through the ranks. It’s all well and good that psu signs a strong class, but the odds on a majority of the class sticking around through their sophomore year seems to go down every year.

My friends used to ask who the backup’s backup was and I’d be able to rattle off names. Nowadays even starters aren’t even guaranteed to return. It’s the nature of the beast and all, but just not as invested as I used to be.

I am trending that way as well. I will probably be shouting at kids to get off my lawn any day now, but, I actually enjoyed watching players develop over 4-5 years and knowing that they were getting an education if things did not work out in the NFL (which is the case for the vast majority of players in CFB).
As we turn it into more of a straight money transaction, it will be interesting to see if I maintain my level of interest in what happens on Saturdays.

Yeah, me too. I used to count the days until the season began...and when it finally began, the hours until kickoff. But the enthusiasm level over the last couple years in particular has gone down. I mean, I still count myself a big fan, but it just doesn't seem the same anymore.

I don't know if I can put my finger on why. No question, free agency is a factor. Disgust with this conference also wears a person down, though for a change this year I can't really point to a game where we had to play the zebras as well as the opposing team.

Add in all the drama surrounding Franklin. The sense that the chemistry on the team is not what it was for so many years...decades. The joke that bowl season has become with all the opt-outs and silly match-ups. The refusal to expand the playoffs. Covid hangover. The larger politicization of sports that has turned me off the professional game. Some of all that mixed together.

I'm still looking forward to the season and still rooting hard for the Blue&White, but something is missing: a feeling of anticipation and enthusiasm that I had for over 50 years.

Wrt politics there are tons of other places on the internet to have those mudfights, if those in charge want to keep it strictly football you’re free to go elsewhere or even start your own message board to have those “conversations”. Just don’t get the hate for those who tried to run a tight ship.
From what I’ve witnessed any time politics or “public policy” come up it devolved into pissing match and on more than one occasion I witnessed posters previously labeled “staff/admin” ::coughhotshoecough:: attacking board members. If you can’t keep your staff in line I think that’s a pretty good indication that political topics shouldn’t exist on a football/sports board.

The “other board” does seem to have the scoop on PSU Breaking News. They have that going for them.

I’m trying to think of something complimentary to say about this site other than “I recognize the names of fellow posters from the old site certain of whom I like”. 👍

No problem with a tight ship, but we wanted consistency. The old tight ship listed to the port side. No board favorites should have been allowed to get their shots in and have replies to them deleted.

Keep politics on the Test Board and life is good for everyone.

The nice thing about a test board being associated with a football site is that people on both sides of the political divide are football fans and the test board can keep people on opposite ends engaged on the board. A lot of political boards end up being almost entirely one side or the other.

um, Auburn maybe?

You left out the first clause of the sentence, which in its entirety reads: Disgust with this conference also wears a person down, though for a change this year I can't really point to a game where we had to play the zebras as well as the opposing team.

The reference is to our conference and its zebras. The Auburn game was a hose job for the ages, but it was called by SEC refs.

See

It's History in the making and news. Since the invasion i haven't seen one post or update. 9-11 was pages of discussion good and bad, but discussed nonetheless.

Do you legitimately think there will actual valuable discussion in a thread like that? Because there won't be. It will be screaming matches and name calling.

So are most of you on this board only and not paying for lions den?

IMO, Tom McAndrew really suppressed free debate regarding COVID-19 in the early times of the pandemic. There were some extremely well communicated opinions and facts that he deleted in those times. Many come from doctors and nurses on the ground. Ultimately (two years later), many of these opinions (anecdotes) were extremely accurate (the facts always were). Tom is a political hack and, in my humble opinion, COVID expose him.

There was a poster on his (McAndrew) board that I formed a very strong relationship with 20 years ago because we both travelled internationally and frequented the board while everyone else were (mostly) sleeping. We had great conversations that were like direct messaging nowadays on the McAndrew board.

My politics did not always align with my night time friend and, when I began to challenge him on the McAndrew board in more recent times, he reported me to Tom. I subsequently got an e-mail (DM via BWI) from Tom telling me to cease and desist. What a bunch of BS!! I replied to Tom with the above history and told him that he should not protect PU$SIES so blindly. Tom is beholden to his posse/cocoon/ silo.

Between these two incidents, I came to the conclusion that Tom McAndrew is a politically correct Karen and he is not interested in opposing points of view. I am not going over there for my PSU discussions.

Judas Priest, it was a compliment!

The whole "this site is going away" thing that was actually a lie, no matter the circumstances, didn't sit well with me - could have been handled better somehow. Plus, a strong second to what Obli said about not wanting to learn a new platform/personnel. Happy to be here and have zero interest in the other site.
To my knowledge nobody in an official capacity ever said this board was going away and it was relatively obvious that Rivals wasn't going anywhere and that they'd want to keep a PSU board in some capacity.

A board is only as good as it's user base and the On3 board is more active now, so I tend to favor that one. I don't think either is as good as when BWI was hosted on Rivals though, the users have been fractured and as a result neither site is as good as the sum of its parts once were.

Way too lazy to go back and look for exact statements, BUT I do remember many on the board wondering what was going to happen when the "clock struck midnight" on the old board. I think at the time it was an unknown and many thought it would be unusable going forward.
Not piling on but would agree with several posters in this thread that I don't miss Tom's pomposity and at times seemingly biased views that he espoused either by his posts or what he deleted.

Yes, many users did post about that. But I don't recall anyone from BWI or Rivals saying this board was going away. They were mostly silent and IIRC they even chimed in and said the contract that had been signed precluded them from saying anything in detail one way or the other. I'm sure BWI admins were perfectly happy letting board users assume the worst because they wanted users to follow them to the new site.

I did go back and check and at best it was lying by omission. There were dozens of threads across multiple weeks about the board ending, moving to and getting setup on the new site, farewells & see ya laters and not once did anyone say there would still be a message board - or anything at all - continuing at this site.

McAndrew is a charlatan. He purposely said nothing about this board going away so that his sheep would follow him over to the other board. He also played politics with his moderation of this forum. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain what he was. Let the sheep worship their master.

I went to both boards for a short while after the switch but it was a pain so I stopped going to the On3 board. I just now went and checked it and I get a "you must be subscribed" message when I try to read a post. Also, I don't like the fonts and setup at all on the On3 board.

I don't get why people went to on3. I sure as hell owe no loyalty to the name of a free message board. Keeping the same bookmark and name is 1000x better.
Many of those guys were with Tom for over twenty years, long before the McAndrew board or Rivals. They have a definite connection with each other. So I fully understand.

I also didn’t like how he left and started a new board. I am sure he sold the rights to this one for some serious cash. To take all that money and then start another competing board....and announcing it on the board he sold ......was pretty unethical in my book. Don’t know the sales agreement or contracts signed but wouldn’t be surprised if a lawsuit is the result.

Not sure why that matters. I posted on this board under a different account long ago that I have since forgotten, but I have read this board for 25 years.
Just knew that you had been here under a previous nom de plume. Otherwise you wouldn’t know the board history so well.
