2018 Recruiting Thread

It looks like we are going to finish this 2018 recruiting class with 18-20 4star or 5star recruits

We are either in excellent shape or the outright leader for:

George, Dotson, Enis, Walker, Armstrong, Earlington, Oweh, Mustipher, Hardy, Lamb, Young, and Raines. All 12 are Rival 4stars. If we just got two-thirds (8) of those kids we finish with 18 4 or 5 stars. And it could even be better. This, my friends, is a bona-fide Top 5 class!
Man, it doesn't get any better.

Annd we have an outside shot at Parsons, Anoma, Tyreke, Friday and a few other highly ranked kids to ice the cake.

How do you like them apples?

Yeah, this class can be outright scary. Can you imagine a class of 25
made up of:

2 - 5*****
18 - 4****
5 - 3***

I think only OSU is probably assured to finish higher than us. Finishing 2-5 though is just peaches to me! And I could care less about what Parsons and his self promotion does!

According to a new Fitz article a top 100 DL is returning to campus this week. No clue as to who and if he means 247 top 100 or composite top 100 or 2019 class. Potentials:

PJ Mustipher - 247: 63 Comp: 103
Eyabi Anoma - 247: 82 Comp: 50
Tyler Friday - 247: 102 Comp: 61
Matthew Jones (we were targeting him at OL though) - 247: 46 Comp: 64

2019:
Antonio Alfano - 247: 13

No matter who it is, it is awesome to get any of them back on campus. Probably not Mustipher or Anoma since there were just here two weeks ago.

It would get better if we win the National Championship this upcoming season AND get 18+ 4 or 5 star incoming recruits for the 2018 season!

Playing the (Justin) Fields
The one quarterback committed elsewhere to keep an eye on is 5-star Penn State pledge Justin Fields. However, despite a strong push from Canada and the Tigers’ coaching staff, Fields has maintained that he is solid in his commitment and it would take some sort of major shakeup in Happy Valley before he considers his other options.

Florida is likely the No. 2 school considering how strong the Gators are pushing for the 5-star Georgia prospect, but LSU is making its case to Fields.

“It definitely has my mind spinning with all these schools coming at me,” Fields told SEC Country in May. “But it is definitely just a great feeling to get this recognition from these schools. I’m actually seeing all this hard work pay off. It is great to see all these colleges come for me. That is really what I always wanted.”

Spinning, sure. That’s natural. But would that lead to a de-commitment or a flip?

The likely answer is no.

In fact, Fields described the sort of shakeup that could lead him to change his mind. It would be something more categorically disastrous like a coaching shakeup or the loss of critical staff members.

“If something crazy happened at Penn State where I would have to de-commit, then they would definitely have a chance,” Fields told SEC Country, on the chances of a potential flip.

By “crazy,” Fields means an event best defined as a major staff change or any other negative turn of events that would affect the way he views a chance to play for the Nittany Lions.

With the Elite 11 Finals scheduled for this weekend in the Los Angeles area, no one has more momentum than Penn State commit Justin Fields.

Fields, a dual-threat quarterback from Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.), has had the best spring of virtually any player, especially among the quarterbacks.

The results can be seen in his rise in the national recruiting rankings announced this week.

Fields is now ranked as the No. 2 player overall in the Class of 2018 and the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback.

The No. 1 player in the class is Trevor Lawrence, a pro-style quarterback from Cartersville (Ga.) who has been No. 1 since the Class of 2018 was first ranked nearly two years ago.

Both Lawrence and Fields will be in the Elite 11 Finals, along with Matt Corral, a USC commit from Long Beach Poly.

“If Lawrence is the old-school prototype of the tall, strong-armed pocket passer, Fields is the next-gen future,” 247Sports national recruiting director Barton Simmons wrote. “He’s 6-foot-3, 220 pounds with strength, physicality and legit 4.5 speed. He’s accurate and strong-armed but has the ability to extend plays but the smarts to play within the scheme. The kid has Ivy League credentials with a 3.9 GPA and a score of 29 on the ACT.”

Fields added the coveted fifth star from Rivals.com and moved up 99 spots to No. 8 overall.

“It is hard to find a more exciting player in this class,” Rivals Southeast recruiting analyst Chad Simmons wrote. “Yes, Lawrence is a special talent, but the way Fields can throw, the way he can run and the way he can make plays, it makes many think of Cam Newton. Fields has a live arm, he has really improved as a passer and his legs make him scary.”

With the rankings by Rivals and 247Sports, Fields is now No. 6 overall in the composite rankings, up 14 spots from previously.

Fields committed to Penn State in December, but the suitors continue, with Florida, Florida State, Auburn and in-state Georgia among those in pursuit.

The Penn State coaches continue to check in with Fields as he received visits from Nittany Lions coaches twice during the month of May.

Florida cornerback with offers from PSU, Florida, Auburn, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Wisconsin, etc.

Florida DB Jordan Miner will visit Penn State for the first time this upcoming weekend.

Penn State will host Wesley Chapel, Fla., defensive back Jordan Miner and his father for an unofficial visit this weekend.

A four-star prospect, Miner earned an offer from the Nittany Lions in October 2016. The Wiregrass Ranch prospect has been trying to visit State College ever since, but he was ultimately forced to cancel two previously scheduled visits for the game against Michigan State last season, as well as the Blue-White Game earlier this spring.

Over the past year, Miner has earned just shy of 30 scholarship offers, 10 of which have come from programs in the SEC - Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt. However, he's grabbed the attention of schools all across the country, as Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon, Pitt and Wisconsin are a few other programs that have thrown their hat in the race.

Following the 2016 season, Miner took unofficial visits to Florida, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State and Tennessee. He then visited Auburn and Georgia in the beginning of May.

At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Miner has primarily played cornerback in high school, but he could play safety at the Division I level. Last season he recorded 38 total tackles, including 6.5 for a loss of yards. Miner also broke up 12 passes, pulling in three interceptions.

Fields heads west

Penn State five-star quarterback commit Fields has been discussed a bunch this spring, as the Kennesaw, Ga., native has floated the idea of visiting other schools while also frequently reaffirming his pledge to the Nittany Lions.

Nothing has come of it, though, and the Peach State passer is expected to see State College this summer.

Before that, though, he'll head to Los Angeles, Calif., this weekend and join a long line of former, current, and future PSU recruits who competed in the Elite 11 Finals. The event, put on each year by The Opening staff, aims to put throwers through a series of drills that test their mental and physical abilities to evaluate the order of the current class' QB crop. It'll be held today through Sunday this year.

Christian Hackenberg, Jake Zembiec, and Sean Clifford have all attended over the last few years.

Fields is currently the No. 2 player in the Class of 2018 according to 247Sports, and he'll battle with that recruiting service's top player in the cycle, Cartersville, Ga., five-star quarterback and Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence, for top honors.

Maybe Harbaugh is asking if he can see the Big Ten championship trophy, since he's unlikely to get close to it anytime soon.
