2020 Transfer portal news

That's an assumption.

If he is planning to have surgery and be out this year, then he can still attend Princeton and graduate in 4 years (plus however many summers). This year would be his redshirt for NCAA purposes, and he would have to go non-Ivy grad school (which is probably better anyway as an engineering major, if he wants an MS Engr).

Entering the portal doesn't commit him to transferring this year -- it's a formality that allows him to communicate with future grad schools. (Which is smart, because non-athletes considering grad school typically start that process around this time as well.)

i didn't consider that he would complete a 4th year before transferring. what would princeton's incentive be to fund his redshirt year if he won't be able to compete on the other side? just goodwill/honoring their side of the commitment? i guess he could be taking a smaller cut this year just to complete his degree.

I could be wrong but i don’t believe ivies offer redshirts which means he would have to greyshirt to complete his degree. Also not to mention, the school is technically funding him (based on financial need) off of “academics” not athletics due to ivies not offering athletic scholarships. So it really shouldn’t matter what Princeton’s incentive is

Ivy League does not recognize redshirts. However, the rest of NCAA does.

So if Brucki sits this year at Princeton, he still has 1 year of eligibility left as long as he subsequently ttransfers outside the Ivy League.

But would Princeton allow him to actually be on the team this season if he is not competing per Ivy rules? I guess he could work out with Finger Lakes.

Look at El Jefes post on page 8. Per a tweet by willie, brucki is having surgery and likely to miss the season anyway. So regardless he wouldn’t be wrestling this year for them anyway. And you cannot play any sport as a grad student at Ivies

I assume you meant NJRTC, which is affiliated with Princeton.

He can wrestle for Princeton in 2021-2022 if he withdraws from school this year.

Pico started training at a new club before his last fight in January. Maybe his new coaches are getting in his head to wrestle. Nice power double-leg, landing the takedown and working the body with some heavy punches. Much better than trying to throw undisciplined KO punches with his glass jaw unprotected.

Graduate student? did not realize that. If he comes to the good guys, could be interesting between him and J.Lee for the 165 spot

He graduated from Bergen in 2018. That is a very quick degree from Stanford.

Well spoken kid. The Stanford website has him as a Redshirt Freshman last year and that jives with Bergen in 2018. Not sure why he said he was entering the portal as a graduate student - maybe that's a classification to let other school know he is immediate eligible? Three years eligibility (or is it 4 with COVID?), something to consider?

I am of the impression that he has 4 years left. That is what would make sense? This is the throwaway season, then next year is his sophomore year?

That is right, he will wrestle at Stanford this year and then will have 3 more years after that. Alsoq, would not be uncommon for him to graduate early. Probably after fall semester next year as you would have to assume he has been taking summer classes.
