2021 NCAAs

Love to see the emotion from Lee. You can tell he respected Rivera, but he didn't turtle up and wrestled his match. Awesome.

Why did the ref say nothing on the double leg? Am I missing something? Nick got it anyway (plus FOUR NF) but that was insane.

Wow, these Refs are doing an Iowa home-job. Eireman gets a gift pin and the the Ref in Lee's match steals his major from him - claiming he only got 2 swipes! What a f'ing joke! Lee had Seabass on his back while clown ref was still saying he didn't have a TD!

That was the biggest Iowa job I've seen. It wasn't even close to a fall.

I wouldn't make such a big thing about not shaking hands.

Some guys probably got used to it because of Covid ... even though of course it doesn't make rational sense after grappling closely with someone for 7 minutes.

It might be more of a habitual (re)action because the ref also doesn't now typically raise or shake a hand.

Ref called a 3rd Caution on VT wrestler without awarding RBY a point. The Ref was flat brutal awful th entire match.
The Ref stepped the action and reset the wrestlers - doesn't matter If he blew his whistle or just walked in with hand in stop position, it clearly should have been a caution as he stopped the action and reset the wrestlers. That was clearly a 3rd caution and should have been a point RBY.

Good grief, you really are clueless.

First, there were only 2 cautions issued against the VT wrestler, not 3.

Second, there are A LOT of reasons why a ref would stop things without issuing a caution on a restart. A whistle from another mat (which frequently occurs in tournaments) is one reason. Not having invited the top wrestler on is another. The ref realizing they said something that was wrong is another, the ref blowing their whistle but no moving their hands is another, moving their hands but no blowing their whistle is yet another. Etc., etc.

The ref was a few feet from the wrestlers, and talked to both of them after the stoppage. You usually do that when you're explaining something, but that what you didn't like, or why you're not issuing a caution.

Things are not always so black and white, no matter how much you claim they are.

Bullshit stoppage on Lee
It is the Iowa wrestler rule. It used to be very prevalent, but has been relatively missing in recent years. It has been applied heavily this weekend.

See also the Murin overturn. It isn't even subtle anymore.
