2021 NCAAs

Congratulations to Iowa for winning its first team title in 11 years. Too bad PSU owned the night and will be remembered more for its performance than this Iowa team. Wrestling is an individual sport, your job as coach is to help your athletes reach their goals. Brands failed.

Eierman went to Iowa to win a national championship, oops lost to the PSU guy (BTN even included him in an "On the Mat" episode). Kemerer has been the good soldier at Iowa, oops lost to a PSU guy. Marinelli, another #1 seed, losses in the quarter finals again (at least it wasn't against a PSU guy). No wonder they are a little bitter.

If you are an elite recruit, what program are you more interested in? The one with the team title and 1 champion or the one with 4 champions, 2 of them head to head against Iowa avenging earlier losses. Obvious answer.

In the words of Tanner Boyle "You can take your trophy and shove it", PSU back on top next year.

Yeah 2nd place is an insult, but before winning this one the hawks only managed one 2nd place in a decade
Everybody keeps saying "in decade". The last 10 champs are Penn State with 8, Ohio State with 1 and Iowa with 1. Until today they had not won shit in a decade. It has been 11 years since they won a championship.
It probably won't happen again until 3 or 4 years after Spencer takes over.

Good thread tonight gentlemen. Better than the test board or the recruiting thread bickering. Too bad it’s over til next year.

The "test board!" Could you imagine if your first board posting experience was there? You'd never fking return for a second visit! LMAOOOOOOO!

I'm almost to the point that I think it's a "problem" with medications. And now the devious side to me so turn away if you dont want to watch but Desanto wrestles like a complete beast when he's pissed off. The entire year he didnt have that edge to him until Nationals. Now If I were a like a Hawk fan (more specifically...Vodka) I'd think they took him off his meds to get that edge back.

Ok... pile on.
That same thought crossed my mind.

These finals were terrible tho and I didn’t have a dog in the fight. Damn near every match had one guy wrestling and one guy with his heals on the white line. It was bad. Not gonna win any fans with nights like tonight.
Maybe...maybe not but I'm willing to bet Cael and PSU won over even more young kids and recruits. When they see PSU putting out National Champs like they do, we may no longer even need a damn slush fund....

or Willie.

I remember Jason Nolf talking about how nice of a kid Kemerer was after he beat him a few years back at NCAA'S. It's a shame his fans don't recognize his sacrifice to wrestle at Iowa and be a class act and a great wrestler.

Iowa fans should be down on bended knee to Kemerer; I am pretty sure Spencer Lee has said that Kemerer is one of the biggest reasons he ended up at Iowa.

I loved the look on Eiermann's face after he lost and realized Yianni will be back next year. Nick just has to handle him at Big 10s and he'll be on the wrong side of the bracket (if he even bothers to come back)
That’s not a sure thing. Yianni will also be given credit as returning two time champion as well and seeding COULD....not saying will, but could end up with Nick as 2 and Jaydin as 3.

Depending on Van Ness situation
Lee might go to 149, Beau down to 141.

Very well summarized!

Umm Spencer's interview def came across a bit pissed off/annoyed, but DeSanto was banned from the medal ceremony for his actions... Spencer's still a helluva kid is seems

I disagree with all that say he was dickish, etc. I saw a kid that was relieved. He tore his ACL (again) 8 days ago and watched all of his teammates lose tonight, as well as their rivals for 4-4. Quint asked him what he had been through and answered. He didn't make excuses and said they kept it quiet so there would be none.

I just saw a guy that was happy he won. yet relieved. This may sound wrong, but it's not easy when everyone expects you to be perfect. My guess is he felt the burden of carrying his own and his team's expectations and was just honest. I don't think anything differently after this interview than any other I've ever heard him give.

‘People need to stop making judgements on a someone’s character based on an interview right after a match. I will admit it wasn’t the best look for Lee, but I have heard nothing but good things about him. I am not about to label the kid a dick based on that interview.
Being a dick is a scatter plot. 99% of his plots are in the not a dick area of the chart. That one was more firmly in the crotch than AJ

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them”
Like you said, he came off smug. And while he didn’t toss his team under the bus, he definitely placed them in front of it.

Agree, wasn't the best look, but not much time to process a lot of emotions. Feels bad for his teammates who lost, particularly Kemerer. He did not get bonus, maybe that cost him the Hodge. He has a recently torn ACL and the Olympic trials in a month (getting a NCAA title might have cost him a shot at an Olympic team birth).
