2022 Recruiting Class Thread

In the first place who ever said it had to make sense? Secondly unless you have a PHD degree from MIT you will never understand it. And even then it’s subject to daily changes based on the whims of the recently hired site manager who is a French Literature graduate and actually a Real Madrid soccer fan. Thirdly you are on a need to know basis, and you don’t need to know. Finally rest assured you are not alone, you are never alone when trying to make any sense out of this subjectively objective riddle.

A PHD from MIT is not versed in utter Bull Shit!

Micah helping out in recruiting:

"When I watched film with them I saw how dangerous
Micah Parsons
was and I know, because of the way he played, I know I could do the same things there. He texts me all the time says I'm the only one that can wear number 11 next. He worked really hard up there. He's just a workhorse."

Let's see. It is how many players have gone to to img as 4s and came out 5s. ...
Stop the afternoon drinking.

Not really.

Did they get better? Your original point. Or did they get more exposure?

If it is really about coaching then why don't they coach up the players, they have? Why not turn 2*s into 4*s?

Certainly not advocating for anyone to transfer to such "athletically focused" high schools, because there are other factors, but such players do theoretically play against better competition...other teams with similar talent as opposed to whatever talent (or lack thereof) happens to exist in their home area...

Gee, who knew star ratings go up and down over time
Lol

My initial reaction to that is he should keep quiet until we are able to beat Ohio State. But after further thought, good for him. Throw the gauntlet down and rise up to the challenge.
My gut says too early to talk but clearly they have some things lined up in the class that feel really good about. I'm excited about that. I do wish that they play it out first though. Maybe I'm just not 17 anymore.

We are 2-8 in our last 10 games vs O$U - apparently the “throwing down the gauntlet“ part is far easier than the “rising up to the challenge” part.

If you’re going to run your mouth, you better be prepared to back it up. Hopefully they can back it up.

To be fair, the 2022 recruiting class had absolutely nothing to do with a record which is dominated by overcoming what was thought to be the worst sanctions since SMU got the death penalty.

Exactly - Ali could get away with it, and did for years; Neon Dion did too. But so many champions never trash-talked - Jerry Rice, Joe Montana - don’t remember much smack-talking from them. Different times I guess.

I think you guys are reading into this a little much. The kid is doing some good natured ribbing here more to promote penn state and their class than to disparage OSU's. He knows, as we all do, that OSU is the standard bearer in recruiting and the BIG 10, but the kid is having some fun and planting a flag for PSU. I highly doubt this will be perceived as bulletin board material in Columbus. Last week we had threads about how OSU should be our programs central focus. How to recruit with them, how to develop players like them, how to input the type of offensive and defensive strategies in place to beat them once a year.

It is dominated by LOSING - for whatever reason or excuse. It is dominated by years of us letting them overtake us as a program, which started when a certain coaching legend placed his progeny in charge of recruiting Ohio. No more Ki Jana, Herrings, or Hartings. Plenty more mediocrities. This is a self-inflicted issue, waaay before the sanctions. And it will continue unless we start out-recruiting them consistently. Having a consistent choking 4th quarter defense under the present regime doesn't help, either.

This guys is making some big promises... let’s hope CJF can keep them

I admit that I always cringe a bit when I see stuff like this. But as others have said, I think it's just a kid being optimistic about what he and his buddies are building in the 2022 class. In my view, no harm no foul.

I'm sure some OSU fan somewhere will find a reason to be offended by it. Whatever. There's little chance our class actually does vault to #1 without either a run on 5* commits, or major boosts in the rankings for the kids we already have. It's shaping up to be a really good class regardless, though.

I am curious what high profile recruits might be looking to commit soon, though.

Yeah, I dont begrudge his optimism at all. Just saying that CJF needs to step it up. Franklin’s best qualities as a coach are relationships and recruiting. He’s been a good recruiter, but if Penn State is going to be elite, he needs to get a lot more elite recruits. I say this as a CJF fan. Love him, but it’s time to step up the game.
