2022 Recruiting Class Thread

Sean Fitz with a CB for Allar to Penn State with a confidence level of 8. The writing is on the wall that a commitment could be imminent. Franklin no longer has any excuses that he isn’t getting quality quarterbacks so he now needs to frickin develop them.
Imo, Trace was one of the best QBs in psu history and was capable of winning us a NC. He was a 3* safety. I take all of these rankings with a tri-axle of salt. In college, I believe it's more about fit than ranking. Trace was perfect for us. Hack, was not. At least when Franklin took over with a new offense.

The offensive haul is already impressive, and looks to get even more so.

I've heard from a few sources that Singleton might be an uphill battle, and ND and OSU appear to lead at the moment. But another claimed that PSU is closing the gap, so who knows. Admittedly, he has kept his recruitment pretty quiet.

Ditto for Enai White and Keon Sabb on the defensive side. I don't imagine Sabb's move to Florida helps us, plus he's got all the big boys after him. White appears to be SEC, OSU, or PSU -- no idea in what order.
Singleton to O$U would be a body blow...very good so far but must get better.

ND already has a RB commit, and OSU is looking at a pair of kids from the south as their RB option. So it's not clear where Singleton ranks on their boards.

Plus, OSU has the #1 RB from the 2021 class as well as Evan Pryor, so they may only take one RB in 2022.

Definitely seems like a race between those three, though. Ditto for Dallan Hayden, who PSU just offered and is high on both ND and OSU.

OSU is the leader right now for both Singleton and Hayden, and Eleven Warriors has published that it is a first to commit type of situation for them. Penn State is in on both players so we could get one based on who commits to OSU first. Either player is good but Singleton would be best as he is an in state recruit.

Doesn’t OSU lead for every recruit that they offer, according to Buckeye fans?

There are rumors that Singleton has “handlers” and a “camp” that is playing a major piece in his recruitment. He’s going to listen to PSU, but I can’t see him coming here unless something drastic shifts momentum in his recruitment.

"Big, classicly built quarterback prospect. Came from a background of playing other positions, but has quickly taken to quarterback and developed a great deal mechanically between his sophomore and junior year of high school. Has a strong arm with good velocity on his passes and high school offense allows him to make throws to every part of the field. Very good at off-platform throws and having to change arm angles to make throws without needing to set his feet. But can also stand in the pocket and deliver the ball on time. Seems to have a good understanding of timing and anticipation. Has smarts, work ethic and general intangibles. Coordinated athlete with his feet so he can slide around and make throws while on the move but is not as much of a running threat at this age. Projects as a college starter, potentially an early one and has the traits to play on Sundays."

Some of you leap to too many conclusions.

First, rankings are a crap shoot these days. A lot of states didn't play FB in the fall, or played reduced seasons. A bigger deal was that no summer FB camps took place this past summer, so none of the colleges got to evaluate these guys up close. Also, the offseason camps (Rivals, Nike, etc.) only partially took place in 2020, and have been rather spotty in 2021. For the most part, the 2021 camps have been down South, and the numbers have down in terms of camp participants. So many of the tools that college coaches use to evaluate prospects are not present for the 2022 class, and even less of the tools that the recruiting services use are available.

With that caveat, there is a wide diversity of opinion on Brubaker, His Rivals ranking is way, way out of line with the evaluations of the other sites. These things have a way of evening out (not completely) over time, so I wouldn't place too much stock on Rivals' ranking at this time.

Next, PSU seems to like him more as an OG, not as an OT, so disregard the position for which he's registered in the Rivals database.

A get? Only time will tell. A late riser? Not really, more of someone for whom there are mixed opinions, along with the lack of things I mentioned in the 1st paragraph. Slow played? No. Must be a take? That remains to be seen.

There are no brainers, absolute studs who also have good academics and good characters who are absolute takes. Many of the other prospects that PSU offers are in more nuanced situations.

His father having played FB for PSU likely helps, but it's not as though offspring of prior players are always takes. You have to sit back and see how the OL recruiting goes, as well as the overall class (it looks as though PSU will have a big 2022 class).

Lancaster County football is not known for producing great line talent. With Rucci last year and Brubaker this year things seem to be changing.

York County has given us Pribula. Harrisburg area Has produced a number of greats over the years.

The South Central area seems to be more productive now than the WPIAL.

If he has handlers.....let him go

No PSU with this kid!

Zach Rice
.
A Lynchburg, VA, native, Rice is the No. 17 overall prospect nationally in the class, is the top-ranked player in the state of Virginia, and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder has over 35 offers from programs across the country and released a top eight in Nov. 2020, which includes North Carolina. The other schools included in Rice’s top eight are Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Virginia.

UGH!!

Haven't seen it shared here. Presented without comment.
So you are basically saying that Gunner Givens sucks, right? And since Givens has expressed an interest in wanting to play Defensive End in college, schools are backing off of him, for which his skillset as a Defensive End or lack thereof is on display in the video you shared.

I can't state it in any other language.....I think 2 blue chip QBs is great for Penn State. I also understand why James Franklin feels the need to bring in 2 QBs.
What I don't see is how it is good for Beau Pribula. All I said was that if it were my son, I'd want him to commit to a school that was investing in 1 QB in the recruiting class. Now, everyone doesn't seem to see it that way. That's fine. I'm simply saying that one is going to transfer after a year or two. Let me know when I'm proven wrong.
How about we just welcome our newest Nittany Lions and trust them and their families to make their own decisions with their own motives. There's a lot of people who would be excited to compete on a team and have a chance to lead Penn State's return to the top. We understand that you would only send your son to a school that promises your kid the starting job and that's fine, but please respect the decision made by these recruits and their families. This is almost comical. Most of the time, recruits are saying "RESPECT MY DECISION" when they pick another school, but here we have a PSU fan not respecting the decision of recruits who choose PSU.

On a closing note, before assuming the thought process of other people, I'll leave you with this quote from Beau Pribula. I hope it brings you peace of mind.

"I definitely knew we were going to get another QB in my class, and I'm all for it," Pribula said.

So are we looking at Givens at DE as well? There certainly is a need and he would show up with the size to immediately see the field at this position. Now if he has the skillset for early playing time at the position, I don't know.

From what Givens shows as body type he looks more like a DT in PSU's defense, and what historically Franklin likes to do with larger DE's....

Remember when people lost their minds because Drew Shelton enrolled at IMG? This is one of the positives to come out of that move. CJF does a great job of turning perceived negatives into actual positives. The man never stops working.

^^ This is Bobby Acosta, head football coach at IMG, stating about Penn State football coach James Franklin, "WE SHARE THE SAME VISION."

Kwan Williams, one of the two recruits from the McDonogh School in Maryland, committed to Boston College today. We were the leader until Bowen left, and it was perceived that he may have been one of the silent commits in this class. Tough loss, especially at a position like Defensive Tackle.

Interesting since he is a defensive player and Bowen was not going to be his coach. Still time for Scott and Poindexter to get him back if they think he is worth the effort.

Jeff Hafley is doing some good things up there, especially on defense.

But this is surprising. Dohn, Fitz, and Donahue had high confidence in Kwan to PSU.
