2022 Recruiting Class Thread

Apologies for re-posting but I can't stop watching this hit by Tyrece Mills. Someone once described either LaVar or Courtney Brown's hits as "minor car collisions," and that's what I'm seeing here from Tyrece.

The commentary in that video is quite hilarious, btw. And that is a violent hit.

In the limited video I’ve been able to watch of him, he reminds me of Marcus Allen at the same stage. Tall and lean and can bring the hammer down when confronting someone after he’s determined the best angle. Almost like an undersized LBer playing safety. Excited to see what his coverage skills are made of as well.

PSU makes Keon Sabb's cut to 6.

Anyone know what position Sabb projects to in college?? Safety?

3
3 things stood out to me:

1. No Bama?
2. Juwan Johnson praising Oregon. Well, at least he must not have negative things to say about PSU, since in top 6.
3. Man, Elijah Robinson mentioned again. I really wish PSU could have gotten him.

4. Didn't mention any of our coaches by name. Hmm?

You gotta love Talley. Reminds me of Shane Simmons when he was recruiting
He was on Twitter this morning suggesting that Quinn Ewers is de-committing from OSU. Consistent with his past posts claiming that OSU commits -- CJ Hicks was one prior target of his -- were all de-committing.

I love how he's recruiting for PSU, but he better back up the smack talk on the field when he takes on the Buckeyes.

I think some are recruiting him as a safety/LB hybrid, which is becoming more common now it seems.

From what I've gathering, Clemson and UGA seem to be the ones to beat here so far.

Interesting thing with Clemson......Dabo isn't offering any official visits for June. Insists that officials need to come during the regular season at a Clemson game. Given how this recruiting season has shaken out -- with this June being the busiest recruiting month in history -- this could backfire spectacularly. Or alternatively, he could be flipping recruits left and right this fall when Clemson is hosting all their visits. I guess we'll see.

Either way, the next 5-6 weeks will see more big time commitments than any stretch in recent memory.

Regardless of Talley's trash talking, I don't think PSU wants to see Quinn Ewers to de-commit from OSU because of how it relates to our own top QB recruit from Ohio. Luckily, from reading their boards, there doesn't seem to be much smoke about this topic.

Either way, I hope we have an entire roster of guys like Tally that not only challenge OSU, but don't back down. We need this. I am not suggesting chirping and classless "put downs" but I much prefer this from our players than what ANtonio Shelton had to say before the OSU game last year when asked about the importance. Sort of a conciliatory mention to them all being brothers on and off the field, many of those guys are old friends and the like. Kind of defeatist, we'll take our thrashing and shake hands, after-all, this is just football not life. We need guys that want to challenge OSU's reign on the Big Ten and that actually believe we can beat them.

True.

But this is like the third OSU recruit he has claimed is de-committing........with no evidence. He previously claimed their 5* WR was flipping to Oregon, and their 5* LB was leaving.

Seems like an odd thing to troll them about. It's not like he's saying "I'm going to make OSU pay for not recruiting me", or "we are going to show the world that OSU isn't the boss anymore". Stuff like that. Making up de-commitment rumors is kinda stupid.

I saw Ewers play live here in Texas. I would not be shocked if he decommits; he seemed more of a pocket passer (rocket arm) and less a runner.

I actually think Ryan Day prefers the true pocket passer vs. a dual threat. Fields was a bit of both, but I think most would argue that his arm talent is his primary weapon with legs being secondary - which is what made him so good, because he was elite at both. But looking at what they have on their roster + Haskins/Fields, it feels like Day wants somebody who can sling it more than he wants a runner. It felt like Urban just wanted an elite athlete at QB. Which is what would make some PSU fans nervous if Ewers would de-commit. Allar is right in OSU's backyard and regarded as an elite HS arm talent.

Honestly, think this a mute point on my part because there's nothing out there suggesting Ewers is wavering besides a tweet from a high school kid in Philly.

Fair enough... I can tell you I watched this kid rip 30-35 yard cross field up/out sideline throws that looked like bullets, dead on target. he's the real deal

Agreed.

As successful as Urby was, OSU never maximized their potential on offense with the way he used JT Barrett as a mini-Tebow. When Day came in, what he did with Haskins -- and then Fields -- immediately elevated that offense.

Ewers will be perfect for that system -- or for any system, really. Mobile enough, but his arm talent is ridiculous. The way he whips the ball into tight pockets is very Rodgers-like. For PSU's sake, I'd love to see him flip to anywhere outside of the Big Ten. Probably won't happen, though.

Regardless, we should be very happy with Allar, and if Ewers at OSU keeps them away from Allar, so be it.

Serious question. I've seen a few references to Ewers sticking to his OSU commitment so OSU doesn't try poaching Allar if Ewers decommits. Did Allar grow up a Buckeye fan like many in Ohio ? I went to 247 Sports and saw that he didn't get offered by OSU so my guess is he might be POd enough that he's put them in his rear view mirror and probably doesn't want to hear any garbage from them in the future

I have no idea if Allar would be interested in OSU or not - that QB room is full of 5*s waiting for their turn. Whereas, I think a lot of us at PSU are curious to see if he could compete for the starting job here as a true freshman.

Again, I do not mean to cause any commotion on the topic because this is nothing but conjecture based on a dumb tweet from a 17 year old.

My guess is that - as you mentioned - out of all of those star QBs, a couple of them transfer out and the one that ends up being the "star" of the group is McCord and that includes Stroud and Ewers.

This is about the best recruiting news I've read in some time. With Shelton committing without ever actually visiting with the Trautwein and the staff in person this first meeting had to be a key in keeping him solid on his commitment. Getting Shelton 107% committed during his official visit will make him the anchor of the 2022 OL class and also a spokesman for the class in Florida as the staff goes after a couple other top Florida players. Great news indeed!

Didn't see your question answered but yes, he did. Talked about it briefly in a 247 podcast.
