agree. I am pretty surprised. having said that, I'll bet he plays pretty well. In addition, I know his teammates love him and will have his back. A "team pick" but if you feel like you need to play in to deserve it, this is a bad pick. I hope they aren't just doing justin a solid.
I think JT was picked because of how much success he’s had in a competitive format like the Ryder Cup.
He’s 6-2-1 in the Ryder Cup and 10-3 in the President’s Cup. I think he just has the “it” factor in a team format so it’s easy to justify giving him the wildcard spot. Plus, he’s Rory’s daddy whenever they face off.

I agree. In the end, do you take the player with the best record or a team player that has done it in the past? I feel like that is why there are a handful of automatics and then the captain's picks (to fill out the team regardless of recent record).
In the end, you can pick based on science or art. If you pick via science, you are picking based on history. That isn't always best. You can't drive a car by looking at the rear view mirror.
I'll add one more thing. This isn't stroke play so players that have done great in almost all stroke play events may not play well in best ball, fourball and match play. Its different and you've got to be more of a competitor when each stoke carries substantial pressure and risk.
We saw several pics of Thomas and Speth with their young families at various venues, many during the season. . I expect Thomas will refocus and bounce back.
Thomas is considered to be a great team and pressure player. He hit the cup on a pitch that would have gotten him into the FedEx championship round and probably would have qualified him for the Ryder Cup so he isn't that big of a reach really.
