Since Cael came to PSU in 2010 PSU wrestlers have won 27 individual titles or 25% of the 110 weights competed for during this time!
(10 weight class times 11 years). PSU has won a title in every year with the exception of Cael's first in 2010.

16 National Champs with 27 titles!
7 have multiple titles!

Iowa:

6 National Champs with 8 titles
Spencer is the only multiple champ with 3

Recruits know PSU will get you prepared to maximize your potential reach your goals and have fun! Plus we have won 8 of 11 NCAA wrestling team titles!

This is so important. Top wrestlers go to programs where they can win individual titles as a first priority (at least I believe so). They love to win team titles, too, but they want to achieve their personal goals and have that result in team titles if possible.

So if you want to win NCAA individual title(s), where is your best chance of doing that today? There is one clear answer.

After watching us this weekend, I'm convinced we would have had 4 champions in 2020, maybe 5. Most of our guys likely opponents were all guys they've wrestled before. Cael has showed he knows adjustments. (Cenzo - Bull, Griffith, Mark - Kemerer, Nick - Pletch, RBY - Seabass/Gross, Brooks was the expection I guess but Cael has seen plenty of Hunter Bolen and Taylor Lujan)

Iowa wants to claim that title still? Okay fair enough. They had quite a compliment of great wrestlers and this tournament showed that kind of team can strike down a team with multiple champions but holes every where. In that case, I'll go ahead and claim 4 champs.

Second behind Cael is Koll with 6 with 11 in the Cael time frame, and another 5 with 6 prior.

If he could get the depth across the lineup...maybe all fingers would point east of Iowa.

PSU NCAA Championship Statistics since 2010

Watching Nationals this weekend, the announcers said Penn State never loses in the semifinals. I know never loses is a figure of speech, but I wanted to see for myself. Below is the breakdown for the lions during each year Coach Sanderson has been here:

Year. Semifinalists. Finalists. Champions. Notes
2010. 2. 1. 0. Molinaro lost SF. Valimont lost F
2011. 4. 3. 1. Long lost SF. Molinaro, Taylor lost F. Wright Champ
2012. 5. 5. 3. Megaludis, Wright lost F. Molinaro, Taylor, Ruth Champs
2013. 5. 5. 2. Mega, Taylor, Brown lost F. Ruth, Wright Champs
2014. 4. 2. 2. Nico, Zain lost SF. Taylor, Ruth Champs
2015. 2. 1. 1. Jimmy G lost SF. Brown Champ
2016. 5. 5. 2. Nolf, Nickal, McIntosh lost F. Nico, Zain Champs
2017. 5. 5. 5 Zain, Nolf, Joseph, Hall, Nickal Champs
2018. 5. 5. 4. Hall lost F. Zain, Nolf, Joseph, Nickel Champs
2019. 6. 5. 3. Lee lost SF. Joseph, Hall lost F. Nolf, Nickal, Cassar Champs
2020. NA
2021. 4. 4. 4. RBY, Lee, Starocci, Brooks Champs

- During the 11 NCAA Tournaments Penn State had 47 Semi-Finalists and went 41 - 6 (winning 87% of the time)
- Since 2016, PSU is 24 - 1 in the Semi-Finals (96%)
- Since 2011, 27 National Champions have been crowned (27 - 14, 67% chance of winning if we make the finals)
- Penn State has had at least one NCAA Champ for the past 10 years!

We Are ............. Penn State. (Alternate answer ....... Spoiled)

I thought wrestling teams only had like 9.9 scholarship to distribute? Correct me if I’m wrong... the real question is how does psu afford to recruit all the top tier recruits that can get full rides anywhere??

Are you really asking this?

Many PSU wrestlers are getting very little scholarship money. Some get zero (You'd be surprised). Kids want to wrestle for this staff and parents are willing to pay more than other places.

If Rutgers is handing out free rides, why don't they get more top guys?

Conversely: if Rutgers is handing out free rides, maybe that's why their lineup is boom or bust.

Going deeper
32-0 in the semi-finals when the higher seed
9-6 in the semi-finals when the lower seed

Forget wrestling for a minute. Does a parent always send their kid to the cheapest school they are accepted to? If not, then why wouldn't wrestling parents consider the quality of the wresting experience and the opportunity to realize wrestling goals when picking between schools offering various levels of scholarship?

I know Hawkeye Report doesn't want to admit it but PSU gets the wrestlers they get because of Cael, our 10 year track record of success, and the glowing reports wrestlers give about the program. No cheating need to accomplish what Cael is accomplishing.

Does this equate to 2.45 individual championships per year? What are the average individual championships per year during Iowa’s reign under Dan Gable?

A friend of my son had a full scholarship to Columbia Law School but his father paid for him to go to Harvard Law School instead. Not what I would have chosen, but that was his choice. He's not the only one, I'm sure, who would make that choice.

If parents always chose the cheapest educational opportunity the Stanfords, Harvard's, Yales, Dukes, UVAs would not exist.

UVA is a great academic institution, but not an expensive private school. Wife is an UVA grad.

It isn't a cheap public school.
Of course, Penn State is not a cheap consideration either. Taking it back to the parents' choices for kids, if cost was the dominant consideration Penn State has a tiny enrollment and Lock Haven, Clarion and IUP are enrollment behemoths.

uva is a state school that costs close to other schools - VaTech, JMU, William&Mary.... When my kids were selecting they were all in the 20-24k per year (total)
