285 Unranked Jack DelGarbino (Princeton) over #3 Tony Cassioppi (Iowa) (Fall 2:07)

In the press conference afterwards, Anthony "Skinny" Casserole blamed the loss on the chef for his pre-match meal: his beloved mother. His mother replied in a despondent tone: "I'm sorry. I forgot to add the meatballs".

Dunno how Del Garbino had the strength from such a bad position to roll Cassioppi through like that. Or how Cass didn't feel what was happening and adjust; he was a bit high but not so high that you'd think this was possible. And Del Garbino was about to get pinned himself. Result probably goes the other way the next 99 times but awesome moment for Del Garbino.

Meh. Good win for the Tiger, but no need for Cass to be concerned. Seeds 2-5 are basically a random draw at this point. Shouldn’t figure into B1G seed as much as NCAA, but if he finishes high at B1G the latter will take care of itself.

It had to be perfect timing on the roll because it’s not a high-flying, high momentum turn that Cass used.

Cass didn't have the chin.

Among other things ...

Much ado about nothing. Cass was careless taking him over and will learn to be a little more cautious in the future. Cass is still great and remains a huge threat to place anywhere from 2/nd to 4/th depending on who wrestles Gable when. There are always two types of wrestlers- the humble and those about to be humbled.

It wasn’t just that Cassioppi was high, it was that he didn’t drop his hips after releasing DelGarbino’s leg. If his hips were lower the Tiger would not have been able to get through the crotch to the leg. I doubt he gets rolled all the way through without the leg. Good move on Princeton.

actually pretty slick from the princeton kid and timed it perfectly. hooked the head and through the crotch. but i think it mostly worked because cassioppi relaxed. at heavyweight, guys usually just concede when you get them that far. cass pins him 9/10 times, but made a mistake and paid for it. mistakes aren't forgiving at that size. anybody who thinks cass isn't legit because of this is a moron. he won a world title 2 weeks ago. he'll be right there in march again.

There's 2 years of evidence that Cass should be considered 3 until proven otherwise (AKA Kerk or Schultz beats him, not some flukey pin) That being said, I do think an adjustment to his new physique is a really real thing for him.

agree. there are certain areas where it really helps him. he was quick to the leg last night. looked great attacking at u23's. his footwork and movement look quicker. but now he has to be a lot more careful and aware. that 20 lbs would have saved him last night. he still looks plenty strong. he was physically manhandling that guy on the mat. just has to learn to be more mindful of where he's at against bigger opponents because if he relaxes, he doesn't have his size to save him.

Tbh - I'm hoping it takes away some of his riding abilities a bit against Kerk haha. He knows how to put his full weight on someone to keep them down. I like a shootout on the feet for Kerk against him better.

that was my one concern coming in, but he looked like himself riding last night. definitely agree on your assessment of the match up. i think the downsizing hurts him against kerk, but makes him more competitive against Parris, who doesn't struggle with the size. It sounds like he's still going to have 15-20 lbs on Kerk though so that makes me feel a little better.

Cass will drop in the rankings a place or two for now but everyone should agree he just got caught. It will all play out in the wash when he gets Parris, Gable, Hillger, Kerk or others in duals leading up to Bigs, depending upon the schedule which I didn't research. For Nationals, Bigs will mostly sort things out. In the end, entertaining to watch, but mostly much ado about nothing IMO.

PS - I think this year's healthy version of Kerk handles Cass.

Parris and Cass won't face each other in the regular season -- teams don't have a dual.

Agree Cassioppi's got to realize that lighter weight means he's easier for larger opponents to toss around. Last night it looked like DelGarbino just let him keep building momentum the in direction he wanted to go for the pin; then, with a great sense of timing and of the relative positions of himself and his opponent, quickly wrapped his arm around the back of Cassioppi's neck and pulled him on through onto his back, using that built-up momentum against him in the process and resulting in an unforgettable, "Whaaat the bleep...???", look for for the ages when Cassioppi realized what had just happened.

In the back of my mind, I hear the announcer exclaiming, "he's got the chin"!

Just for the record - I think Cass is legit and, also, I am a moron.
