Every match is the same, the Americans get some momentum so their opponents just lay down and don't get up until they catch their breath.

He immediately took off the wrapping once the second period started. Apparently the wrapping fixed the problem in 40 seconds.

We need to shine a little more light on what Lilledahl just did. He now has a U17 silver and gold and a U20 silver and gold with 1 more year of U20 eligibility. This has to put him near the top of the most credentialed US age group level wrestlers of all time. This wasn’t an easy weight either. Pavlov just took second at Russian nationals. Ankush has won Asians and was 2nd at U17’s last year. Valizadeh placed 8th at senior worlds in 2023 and has wins over some top senior level athletes like Rzazade. I said this in a post yesterday but one of Lukes biggest strengths is his wrestling IQ. He wrestles so smart. Great at clearing ties and positions he doesn’t like and makes guys wrestle from his positions of strength. He only engages when it clearly benefits him. No attacking just to look busy and because of this he doesn’t give away points. The kid is an absolute winner. I feel lucky to have been able to watch this 4 year run he is on and I can’t wait to see him representing PSU. I think he has a real chance to be PSU’s next 4Xer

He's going to make 125 must see.

Tough loss. Jafarli is really good and super tough to score on. Built like a fire hydrant and Mirasola had trouble penetrating his defense. Good performance for his first time wrestling overseas but he was oh so close to being in the finals and wrestling for gold

Does any group make a formal protest about these stunts to gain time for recovery.

Bookmark this comment. It should be pulled every time somebody tells us how exciting freestyle is and that folk is boring.
FS is still the better product.

But I agree the stoppages have been atrocious this tournament. And the refs haven’t done enough.

At first I was ok with unlimited injury time - simply because Americans don’t abuse it.

But there definitely needs to be a time limit and penalties for multiple stoppages

125kg Gold - Ben Kueter VS Amirreza Fardin Masoumi Valadi (IRI)

Masoumi coming forward a little now, but Kueter holding his ground, stoppage. Kueter 2nd passivity warning, I missed the first, & he goes on the clock. Tying up & pushing, then they break. Tying up, Masoumi looking under hook, Kueter comes forward, Masoumi circles back in & then drives Kueter out, 2-0, restart. Tying up & circling & that's how the period ends.
2-0 Masoumi

P2:
Here we go. Tying up, Masoumi looking under hook again. Kueter holding ground. Kueter comes forward, shoots for a single, Masoumi sprawls & they break. Back on their feet again. Masoumi with a hard under hook to a knee pick & gets a TD, 4-0, restart. Circling & tying up. Forehead to forehead again now, 1:30 left, and they break, then go immediately back to the tie up. Back to the tie up & pushing, 1-min left. Kueter looking for an opening, but Masoumi is blocking off everything. Ugh… kueter spent too much time not wrestling.

He could have won that much.

Horrible game plan from Kueter. He just stood in front of Masoumi the entire match and never used his quickness or athleticism. Masoumi went to his underhook and Kueter just buried his head in Masoumi’s chest. Probably smart but it just burned so much time. He never tried to clear ties or move laterally. I understand that Masoumi is massive and a great athlete in his own right but Kueter wrestled from Masoumi’s strengths and you will never win that way. Overall though Kueter had a great tournament. Will be interesting to see how good he can become focusing only on wrestling

Freestyle is the better product the way Pizza Hut is the best pizza. It's everywhere and consumed in the absence of an alternative.
Naw. Give me the Olympic/world finals over NCAAs all day.

We have stoppages too remember?

Put down the bottle vhs. I appreciate freestyle, but freestyle has the same issues as folkstyle but with two fewer positions being wrestled. Folk is entirely MORE entertaining overall due to that, and in addition provides that the winner be a more well-rounded wrestler in multiple positions. On average.

VHS and most of the Iowa folks can’t let go of the outdated Gable era of box box box push push push, till you either beat the guy dizzy or get him gassed while coach is jumping around screaming for a stall. Why they want a pushout rule.

So I picked 7 out of 10 champions correctly. I missed at 61kg, 65kg, and 70kg. At 61kg I had Blaze winning gold and Ono with silver. At 65kg I had Toprak winning gold and he took 5th. Khorramdel won gold and I had him winning bronze. At 70kg I had Duke bringing home gold. Yamashita ended up winning gold and I didn’t even have him in my preview. I also think he should be OW. 70kg was tough and he dominated. He had 4 techs and 2 decisions including a 6-0 win over Baitukaev in the finals.

Great tournament overall. The USA team came prepared and showed out. Only 1 champ but 9 on the podium, a 5th, and the team title! This will go down as the best U20 team the US has produced so far. Next year could be even better as 8 of the 10 guys still have U20 eligibility

This is my favorite tournament every year and watching and talking about it all with you guys makes it even more enjoyable! Thanks for the pbp @SlipperyPete12! Your pbp is the best. I hope everyone got something out of my preview and had as much fun as I did watching our boys kill it on the international stage

U20 Final Results
57kg - Luke Lilledahl - Gold
61kg - Marcus Blaze - Bronze
65kg - Bo Bassett - Bronze
70kg - PJ Duke - Bronze
74kg - Ladarion Lockett - Silver
79kg - Zack Ryder - Silver
86kg - Josh Barr - Silver
92kg - Connor Mirasola - 5th Place
97kg - Justin Rademacher - Bronze
125kg - Ben Kueter - Silver

Medal Count
1 Gold
4 Silver
4 Bronze

While it's disappointing that Connor didn't medal, the overall team performance was fantastic! What a talented team! The future of USA freestyle wrestling looks great!

Your previews were outstanding, and I shared a couple on other forums where they had guys wrestling.

Kinda disappointed though that you missed on 3 weights. Do you have an improvement plan for future previews? Strive for perfection! 🤣
