I think we all agree that giving Arnold 4 points for this is silly, but can one of you freestyle wizards explain the reasoning here? I can see 2 but never 4.

Coach Cornell said on a podcast with Adam Fellers M* had a scheduled visit to Sem and he didn’t show up or call to inform Cornell he wasn’t coming. Corby said the purpose of the trip was for Joe Sealy but he committed the day before so M* didn’t bother going.
I like Fellers. Rough around the edges but certainly tells it like it is - even if it concerns his Hawkeyes. His take on AJ was right on.

He also looks like someone not to mess with at all. Not huge or anything, but he looks like he would enjoy scrapping - like not the guy to start the fight - just end it

Ooofff. That was a doozy. A recruiting coordinator annoying the coach of the best high school team in the country - a gaffe that puts JayPa to shame.

We like our recruiting coordinator

The Ryder interview was funny. Carter is a beast. Arnold should feel blessed that he never wrestled Carter.

🤣 😂

Ryder: "I wanted to prove a point out here. You know, Gabe Arnold, he talks a lot about my teammate Carter Starocci. And I just took him out."

Reporter: "You feel Carter everyday, right, in a match. You feel him [Gabe Arnold]. Is there any match there between him and Carter?"

Ryder: "Absolutely not. Carter Starocci is a beast. He'll take anybody's head off that's in front of him ... so, he's a best."

Reporter: "So, you'd say Carter would blow his doors off?"

Ryder: "Yes, I do. I'm saying that."

Gunderson has the legs laced, gets a turn & another & another & another turn for a quick tech, 10-0
Lucas down on the mat holding his knee
Trainers & coaches out helping him up. He gingerly walks back to center & appears to be okay. Hopefully, he's okay enough to go for the gusto & win the next two matches!

John Gunderson TF Lucas Cochran 10-0 (52-sec)

Update:
It appears Lucas has injury defaulted out of the tournament. The brackets list Gunderson as the winner of the 2nd match by VIN. Lucas made a great run & it'll be interesting to see how he does in folkstyle this coming year. Great job Lucas!

Compared to broken collarbone or a torn labrum, yes.
I get that damaged ligaments/tendons could be bad (BTW, PJ Duke's season-ending injury as a HS sophomore was a torn labrum). But a broken collarbone is usually fully recoverable, provided it's a clean break (i.e., no bone fragments) near the middle of the clavicle, like most collarbone fractures.

Speaking from personal experience here, though I'm also not a competitive wrestler.

U23 Recap
Not as many PSU wrestlers in this tournament as U20s, but there was still some fantastic matches. I thought the Nagao vs Noto & Cochran vs Pinto matches were a couple of the best. Lucas Cochran was the only one to make the finals, but re-injured his knee in the first match of the Best of 3 Finals, and pulled out of the tournament. I'm not sure when he initially injured the knee, but it was heavily taped in all his matches today. Aaron Nagao injured a shoulder and defaulted out of the tournament in the Semi-Finals. Hopefully, both are minor injuries & they're back on the mat soon.

we have Braeden,no worries!
A few things:
  • If one of our guys is hurt, I always hope it's not serious and won't impact his ability to compete. No matter who it is or what the lineup situation is.
  • If Davis wins the 133 spot, great, more power to him. But I rather he win it via competition, instead of through an injury to Nageo.
  • I suspect the PSU staff would like to redshirt Davis in 2024-25 if possible.
  • Obviously, an injury to Nageo would hurt PSU's depth at 133 (e.g., Davis could get hurt as well).

I like the use of bullet points.

It's just my opinion, but I think they should somehow limit the number of wrestlers per weight class. Starting in the round of 125, Lucas had to wrestle 6 matches to reach the finals. It might have taken 3 more to win it all.

That much wrestling over 2 days is inviting injuries.

Right? I saw 2 for exposure if that's how it goes, but there was no takedown.

I am pretty sure their was a match that had two exposures in one flurry, one for each wrestler and no points awarded to either wrestler.

I really wish I could remember who I was watching.

It was a very low IQ move by Zack similar to Gabe stepping out when he had Zack's leg up in the air while Zack was on the clock.

Both were 3-4 point swings.

Zack won both matches.

If you see it as an exposure, then you have to see it as 4. In freestyle, exposure from feet is 4 and it does not need to result in a takedown.
