U20 World Team Trials & U23 Nationals - May 31-June 2

So Arnold scored only 2 real points in 2 matches? Seems about right
Two push outs.

When TNT start working with him on finishing faster, that should improve.

Oh wait...

Loved the Ryder interview! Thanks to all that posted these. My Lord we have some hammers on the way. Each and every one of them would be THE guy on every other college team. Here they are pieces of the ultimate dynasty. Can’t wait to watch all of them going forward.

Was away all day yesterday so just catching up. Wasn’t Kerk supposed to wrestle U23 and little Beau? Kasak at U20? Any reasons given why they didn’t compete?

I don't recall anyone saying Kasak was going 141. Most of this board thought he was a 157 if anything.

... and I'll believe Kasak missed weight when a more reliable source tells me so. Like the janitor.
Eh...I'm not really about criticism of guys who predict stuff. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong. Time and memoriam. Mineo is fun to follow either way.

The very definition of unreliable.

and then there is Kyle Dake giving an interview saying that he turned down a HC position last year, and Mineo turns it into Kyle Dake turned down the OSU job last year. I don't have time for click bait self-promoters.

Mineo is normally pretty good about Lehigh Valley guys and I have seen from others connected to that area that Kasak is huge now. Also I know for a fact that Kasak likes to have fun outside of wrestling so its possible he is just enjoying his summer

U23 86kg QF: Lucas Cochran vs. Donnell Washington (Indiana RTC)

The Pinto Punisher is up again. Let's see if he gives Washington the Lenny treatment too.
FYI-Lucas had four techs yesterday. The only match he had that lasted into the second period was his tech of Lenny Pinto, and he only needed 25-sec in that period to complete the tech. Let's hope Lucas keeps the streak rolling!

P1:
Lucas is a big kid. Taller than Washington
Here we go, circling, head tapping & then tying up
Washington gets to a leg, elevates it & gets the TD, 2-0, restart
2-min left, Lucas was a slow starter in his last match
Back to center tying up
Lucas drops down to a leg, but Washington fights it off
Lucas drops in again & gets the TD, 2-2, working for a turn, almost gets it, but nope, restart
1-min left
Tying up, then breaking, Washington tapping at the head
Lucas pushing forward a little, stoppage & restart
30-sec left
Circling, Washington with head taps, Lucas reaching for a collar tie
They keep circling as the period expires
2-2, advantage Lucas

P2:
Back to action, circling & then tying up
Washington gets a leg, working, comes around, Lucas quadpod, Washington keeps working & gets a TD, 4-2, restart
2:18 left
Lucas with a quick duck & TD, 4-4, adds a turn, 6-4 Slick & quick duck!
Back to neutral, Washington tries a duck, nothing & goes back to the head taps
Lucas shoots, Washington sprawls back, Lucas keeps coming, they're scrambling & Lucas gets an exposure and comes around for the TD, but only gets 2, not sure what the call was, but now it's 8-4 Lucas.
Refs at the table discussing things now. I thought that should have been a TD & exposure for Lucas.
There we go, I think that's what happened, because now it's 10-4 Lucas
1:04 left, restart
Circling, Washington shoots, drives Lucas out of bounds, 10-5, sounds like they're calling it caution +1 too, 10-6
Restart. 30-sec left
Lucas shoots, Washington blocks him off
Washington shoots, gets a leg & takes Lucas out of bounds while getting another TD, 10-8
19-sec left, restart
Circling, Washington shoots, but too far out. Washington has double unders & tries a throw, but lands on his back, no points for Lucas, restart
The last few seconds click off the clock

Lucas Cochran DEC Donnell Washington 10-8

Lucas has Reece Heller from the Pittsburgh wrestling club in the semi-finals.

Somewhere, Carter Starocci is pleased.

JD with the statement that Iowa and a lot of FLO guys are thinking Arnold could contend this year. LOL.

We're wondering if and when Ryder can break into the PSU lineup.

One guy finished. One guy didn't.
I could see Arnold having an Ethan Smith type career.

They’re so starved for a contender who weighs more than 10 English Stones that they’re building him up so much despite some clear limitations

U23 61kg Consi of 8 #2: Gary Steen vs. Drake Ayala (Mat 1)

P1:
Both guys with a very low stance, one hand on & off the mat,
Ayala in on a leg & gets an exposure or TD, 2-0, restart
Tying up, Steen pushing forward, Ayala tries a snap, nothing
Steen tries to throw in underhooks, but nothing
Back to center, circling & tying up
Ayala shoots in on a leg, Steen wrapped around the waist, but then turns & gives up the TD, 4-0, restart
1:12 left
Tying up, Ayala with a throw by, nothing & back to the tie
Ayala pushing forward, Steen drops to a leg, nothing, back on their feet
Steen reaches for an ankle, nothing, Ayala back in on a leg & gets the TD on the edge, 6-0
24-sec left, restart
Tying up & then breaking, Ayala in deep on a leg again, but Steen fights out of it
Period expires

P2:
Refs sends Ayala back for another wipe down
Ayala in on a shot quick, gets behind for the TD, 8-0, restart
Tying up in the center, Ayala working & gets to a leg & then gets the other for a final TD, 10-0
That's unfortunate. I thought this match would be a little closer.

Drake Ayala TF Gary Steen 10-0 (3:34)

U23 61kg Semi-Final: Aaron Nagao vs. Kurtis Phipps (Buffalo Valley RTC)

P1:
Here we go. Phipps is from Bucknell
Phipps in on a leg, working, Nagao has a foot & we get a stalemate, restart
Nagao moving forward, tapping at the head
Nagao warned for passivity
Nagao moving forward, Phipps shoots for a leg, nothing, Nagao sprawls & stalemate, restart
Circling, tying up
Passivity warning Phipps
1:22 left
Nagao moving forward a little, circling
Nagao in on a leg, Phipps comes over the top, but Nagao working to come around, stalemate, that was quick stalemate
Phipps 2nd passivity warning, goes on the clock
Circling, circling, circling
Passivity point Nagao, 1-0
Circling & tying up as the period expires

P2:
Circling, Nagao with a double handed shove to the chest & then back to circling, These guys aren't tying up much. They both seem to prefer working at a distance,
Phipps shoots, Nagao counters, gets to the leg, working, stalemate or injury stoppage
Nagao appears to have injured a shoulder, it must have gotten tweaked during the scramble
2:08 remaining, restart
Back to circling, Nagao moving forward a little, fakes & faints
Passivity warning Phipps again, back on the clock
Phipps shoots, gets a leg, working to come around, scrambling, & Phipps exposes Nagao & then gets a pin, I think, Update, it appears Nagao was injured & defaulted out due to injury. There was no pin.
Nagao on the mat injured & it doesn't look good. Trainer is holding his shoulder as they come off the mat.

Kurtis Phipps over Aaron Nagao (Injury default-4:28)
The brackets have the result listed as: "KURTIS PHIPPS WINS BY VIN 4:28 2-1"

I thought that was called a fall, but there was a lot going on at the end with Nagao's shoulder injury.
