no we can't match growing up in Indiana and being close to family. So we can't match 4 million a year ?
or didn't feel like he was worth going higher than that. which is probably rightSo we can't match 4 million a year ?
I don't feel like that is the truth.no we can't match growing up in Indiana and being close to family.
Absolutely correct. It's always about the money. As I read about it, it's 4 million per year for 7 years. That's a lot of money and a very long commitment.I don't feel like that is the truth.
He left for more money. And by "more money" I mean some combination of Salary, Additional Income Opportunities (TV/Radio shows), and longer-term opportunities created by being HC of a much larger program.
Why people are uncomfortable with someone saying "I am going for more money" is a mystery to me.
i don't think ND is great in that department either. But what was ND NIL package vs our NIL Package? Early reports said that was a big factor in his decision also.
I agree this was PART of the decision. All of us who have older parents know that being close to them later in life is important tooI don't feel like that is the truth.

Agree. But when you are making $4m per year, those problems are mitigated.I agree this was PART of the decision. All of us who have older parents know that being close to them later in life is important too
His record against top-five and top-ten programs was horrible. If he didn't quit we should have fired him based on the "Modified Football/CJF Standard".
What exactly was our offer to him?Penn State offer was very fair. He was a basket away from being in NIT and they finished regular season in 10th place. While I would have liked him to stay he wasn’t worth more then psu offered.
No one will ever truly know, but there will be plenty of "insiders" who will tell you exactly what it was. Up to you to who you want to trust. What exactly was our offer to him?
sounds like it was matching Notre Dame's offer, at least pay-wiseWhat exactly was our offer to him?
..and it isn't just "march madness" appearances. (but that you for that) ND is very unique to any major college program. ND gets nationwide, if not worldwide, presence. The campus and facilities are first-rate. There is a ton of money flowing into the school. They have been a "football school" but are far better positioned to expand that to include Basketball. Their basketball exposure is far beyond that of PSUs.Number of march madness appearances since 2000
ND - 13
PSU - 3
Let's not act as though our programs are equal - or that it was a lateral move - even if money is supposedly comparable.

If he wasn't a local Indiana native I think PSU holds onto him. The allure there was unique and worked in ND's favor. With the BiG TV contract looming PSU can make up alot of ground quick in basketball and I think most people recognize that...and it isn't just "march madness" appearances. OK... ND's facilities, money poured into BB and TV ratings tell me differently. If he wasn't a local Indiana native I think PSU holds onto him. The allure there was unique and worked in ND's favor. the big ten had one good team and two not good teams, and everyone else was pretty much tied for 2nd. i have not seen a year like thisAnd the Big Ten was awful this season. Look at the results in the tournament.

worst loss in the history of the tournamentI agree. But the good team got beat by a virtual junior college team.
How were the ACC's results in this year's tournament by comparison to the Big 10's?And the Big Ten was awful this season. Look at the results in the tournament.
That's not even close to accurate...what "awful" conference has 5 different teams win games in the first round? Again, Ohio State was the 12th/13th best team, and outside of the Big 12, they would have been middle of the pack in pretty much any other major conference. If the big ten was "awful", how many conferences are better than awful? And the Big Ten was awful this season. Look at the results in the tournament.
Beyond the tournament...Florida State was pretty much on par with Minnesota this season...and they won 7 games in the ACC. The bottom of their conference was awful. How were the ACC's results in this year's tournament by comparison to the Big 10's?

He parlayed a two week stretch of winning very close games, all of them mind you with everything going his way to deliver that. Then slips into the Dance and now he is one of the highest paid coaches. Timing is everything.i don't think ND is gstretch of winning in that department either.
He used us to get another job. To some extent i think Kraft got what he could out of it. at first i was like yeah PSU blew it again. Then i started reading more about it and I think PSU did what was reasonable and even went beyond that. Notre Dame had gone into the territory of very unreasonable based on what this person has actually done job-wise
you could pick any number of wins but it kind of feels like beating Northwestern twice got us into the ncaa tournament, barely. and then he commands the pay of one of the top coaches in the whole country based on that? i am not sure that makes sense
Exactly--people have to stop being naive and believing it's about going home. He didn't care about being close to home with countless other stops. The reality is he took the better job and the better offer.I don't feel like that is the truth.

All I know is how I feel. It sucks he is leaving. The past 2 -3 weeks were fun. But, the other half of my brain says that if they wouldn’t have gone on that nice run at the regular season, and an amazing run in the big 10 tournament, they would have been NIT bound. Couple that with losing a big chunk of the current team, could you imagine the noise next year when we paid a coach 4+ million to be sub .500? Noise would start a month into the season. He parlayed a two week stretch of winning very close games, all of them mind you with everything going his way to deliver that. Then slips into the Dance and now he is one of the highest paid coaches. Timing is everything.
Let's see the big hire they make... On the count of three everyone start to ROTFLOAsO. What about the recruits and transfers that go elsewhere... IsPenn State offer was very fair. He was a basket away from being in NIT and they finished regular season in 10th place. While I would have liked him to stay he wasn’t worth more then psu offered.
He will always be #3 in Indiana. Indiana and Purdue are better plus academics and transfers will hurt but he’s home. I think he just wanted to go homeIf he's successful at ND he will be there until Painter leaves and Purdue offers him 5 million per year or anybody else who ponies up the money.
I think we’ll hire fisher. We’re probably trying to secure a staff for him. All great coaches need an opportunity we don’t know how important fisher was maybe he was the secret in obtaining talentHe will always be #3 in Indiana. we can offer $2,500 to have a players face on a Hi-Way Pizza boxHow does the NIL money work? Can ADs "offer" NIL money?
Doesn't Hi-Way Pizza have to make the offer?we can offer $2,500 to have a players face on a Hi-Way Pizza box
Enough already. with this home crap.No this involves outside money. It’s interesting that nd ad and president called for nfl to form minor league and nba to eliminate the one year rule. I think a lot of programs are struggling with nil nd is historically a better program but maybe not now. The academic standards and distain for transfers will be an issue but he’s back home that’s what he wanted
