5-Star Guard committs to the Lady Lions??

Tall guards though.
The coach stated several months ago that she wanted a controlled, up tempo offense. Maybe she wants a large guard room for depth/flexibility.

These are big guards and players are much more interchangeable in the current game than the old center, two forwards and two guards.

If they all can shoot threes, does it matter what height they are?

However, need to stop blowing 20 point leads, regardless of the roster.

No, she's a high school senior. But coach probably recruited her while she was at Marquette and thus had the relationship established.
The latter is what I meant - couldn’t find whether she was ever committed to Marquette or not, or just recruited by the staff there. Sounds like she was recruited by pretty much everybody.

Wow....Carolyn killing it early in her tenure.

Yep, Washington was washed up 5 years ago............

Can't expect the new coach to break the habits that Washington ingrained in a couple of games. Give her a chance.... ;);)

I think she’s going to be great...I was referring to the four recruits she just got. She’s got the personality to build a juggernaut.

Not enough to keep PA's top prospect out of C-Viv's hands.

She just got started, give her a chance. I’ll bet in year 9 she’s been to at least a few NCAA tournaments.

I don't expect much out of the team this year. I do expect it to be able to hold an 18 point lead going into the fourth quarter against a team like LaSalle.

She’s going to be good.

I suppose we will be able to see what kind of coach she is this year. There does not seem to be much talent on the present roster plus most of it is freshman and sophomores. I drove my daughter back to school couple weekends ago and went to the game against Rider before I drove back home. I missed most of the 1st quarter and they were already down by 10 or so. Most of the rest of the game was making runs to get close and then falling back behind by 10-15 points. A few players looked good at times and some not so good. There is not a star player to rely on for scoring, so a lot of this year will be developing her younger players and establishing leader(s) on the team. I think any record over or around 500 would probably be a good year. The biggest thing will be if the team improves during the year

good start, but i'll get more excited when she begins to bring in some athletic bigs.

I'm sure that's on her list, but a few things likely limited her efforts, and perhaps even interest, in recruiting those type of players. These include:

- athletic bigs are identified early, and all the top programs get in on them. Coach didn't start at PSU until early April. By that point, most of the athletic bigs that were juniors had either declared their intentions, or established good relationships over some time with other programs
- the roster she inherited includes (current year of eligibility) a 6'3" junior forward, a 6'3" freshman forward, a 6'4" sophomore forward, and a 6'3" sophomore forward. By contrast, the roster has a 5'8" grad student guard, a 5'9" senior guard, a 5'10" junior guard, a 5'6" grad student guard, and a 6'2" senior guard. While the team also has 4 freshmen guards, it seems pretty clear that the team would lose a number of guards in the next year or two, so guards were likely a priority in this year's recruiting
- many college teams run a 3 guard, 2 forward offense, and at times will go 4 and 1, respectively. There aren't a lot of dominant bigs out there

Coach will have her work cut out for her in the coming years. The top big in the 2021 class has already verballed to UCONN (she's from NY), and none of the elite bigs are from PA. Using ESPNw's top 60 rankings, here are where their top bigs are from:
CA - 3 (the top one verballed to Stanford)
NY - 1 (verballed to UCONN)
OK - 1
CAN - 1
GA - 3
AR - 1
TX - 1
CO - 1
OH - 1
OR - 1
MN - 1
UT - 1
TN - 1
MI - 1 (verballed to Iowa)
AL - 1

Using the same source, and looking at the 2022 recruits, here's where the top bigs are located (with a note that they only rank the top 25 prospects for this class):

CO - 1
FL - 2
CA - 1
UT - 1
MN - 1
SC - 1
TX - 1
OH - 1
NC - 1
AR - 1

Seems like more programs are running a guard loaded team onto the floor today. At nearly 6' each of these recruits has the ability to rebound. Certainly it helps to have a 6'5" or so player in the middle but I'm not sure it is a necessity anymore.
