A Bit of Wrestling This Weekend

If you look at the current photos on Flo's twitter, Dake is much more solid and bulky up top than Chamizo. Partly due to the fact that he is a 79KG guy, but it's still likely relevant.

My guess is that Dake actually wants 1 take down to 4 straight turns and that's the show. He will reveal next to nothing in the process and dominate an opponent at the same time. Unlikely but a possibility.

First passivity warning vs Chamizo. Followed by passivity call against Dake. About 1 minute in first.

Dake on the clock ... and it’s 1-0 Chamizo.

Step out, and Dake takes a 1-1 lead on criteria, end of 1.

Exposure Chamizo, reversal Dake, then one gut wrench for 2 for Dake. He’s up 4-3.

Ends 4-3.

Chamizo more cautious than Dake, which is expected. But Dake loses a shot clock point and Chamizo gives up a point out of bounds. 1-1 at break.

Great scramble that Chamizo wins, but Dake wrestles through it for a reversal, then gets two on a gut. 4-3 Dake. Nice sequence.

:45 left and odd that Chamizo wasn't put on the clock.

With :12 left, Chamizo gets to a leg, Dake goes chest wrap defense and he'll hold on. 4-3. Nice match.

It was cool to watch and I like what Flo tries to do. But these guys are not in championship shape all year round so you don’t always get the best wrestling. Was still enjoyable to watch. PSU guys looked great.

Fun Night. It was pretty clear that it must have been hot in Austin. Everyone seemed pretty gassed. RBY and DT less so than others but even RBY looked a bit overheated during the interview. I hope all the checks clear :). Despite the 35 minutes of whatever....Thanks FLO Good Night of wrestling.

Talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see.

DT is looking at and hitting targets that most of his opponents do not even see.
That’s one of my favorite quotes. Very apt.

So, I'm given to wonder: if DT is willing to call out Sadulaev publicly for a match, isn't it reasonable to surmise that he must do fairly well against Kyle Snyder in the practice room (Snyder being the only American and one of the few people in the world who has ever beaten or even threatened Sadulaev on the mat in, what, the last five years)?

If DT didn't or can't at least hold his own against Snyder, I doubt he would likely want to give up some weight (to a catchweight between 86KG and 97KG) in order to wrestle the best P4P guy in the world (even if he would simply enjoy the challenge).

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Is Cox saying he wants DT first or Sadulaev first? I suppose "run it back" can allude to DT, but I'm not entirely clear about the message.

I took it to mean Cox wants first crack at Taylor.

There is some obvious bad blood/unfinished business from those two dating back to 2017 WTT.

Yes. And Borroughs was watching too. He commented on Twitter about Dake.

Taylor should insist on a gym that is 50F and 30% relative humidity.
Still too wet to wrestle Cox.

Team PSU (RBY and DT) has secured at least a tie for the "team race" with tOSU and Cornell.

Cornell might be able to tie them with a KD victory, although PSU might win on the point spread
NJ boys had a tough night

IMO honestly it actually says a lot that Cox wants the crack at DT. After all, he has won the last 2 matches against him and has jumped levels since. DT has also and now it's a question of what wins this time around, David's relentless attacks and pace vs Cox impenetrable defense.

Many think Cox is the best challenger to Sadulaev and one of the Top 2-3 PFP guys in the world. The fact he wants to see DT first is saying he wants to see what he can do against him first (especially since for the next 2 years at least, DT won't be his competition for Team USA spots)

Maybe it says that Cox is still pissed at David for criticizing Cox, and Cox wants to shut him up, as David had wanted to shut up PD3.

DT won and didn’t once touch the chin.......

Bo would have been a better match. Kudos for MM stepping into the slaughterhouse

J'Den doesn't strike me as the type of guy to hold grudges over Twitter almost 3 years later. He said "I'll be praying for you" after his match and in his interview and I think that was that for him.

He even said something after beating Bo at Final X he didn't like how Bo was talking about how he was ready to rep the USA (implying he's going to beat J'Den) but when the younger Diakomihalis brother alluded to Bo being J'Den's son, J'Den wasn't having it at all since it was very disrespectful.

He recently called PD3 to make sure he was doing okay and PD3 thanked him by posting his phone number for all of Twitter to see. J'Den is a good guy with a good heart.

Gotta give Ben Askren credit, he asks good post-match questions. Not many people do.

Yeah but did you see his interview with DT? Beyond obsessed with what are the 'secrets' in the PSU room under Cael. He talks about it all the time on Flo as well. Pretty funny. He has a very good scientific approach to coaching, he should just stick with his own style.

This bothered me to the point of almost taking me out of the match. Is he on a Gwiz-like plan of PT training in Happy Valley?
If so, it's likely offseason-only. Pletcher is also the volunteer assistant coach at Pitt.

Unsurprisingly ... Sadulaev says he isn't coming to the US for an exhibition match:

175lb is 79.5kg, what am I missing?
Walking around at 175 means the cut to 74kg is easy, only 12 lbs. It's likely that Chamizo's walking around weight is similar.

That said, Palacio says a lot of things.

Yes on both counts.

For all the goofy things Dake says, Palacio makes him look normal.

Palacio Also Has This Annoying Habit Of Capitalizing Every Word. You'd Think He Would've Learned Proper Capitalization By Junior High. Unless He Thinks Everything He Says Is A Title. Which Is Plausible.

Could it be said palacio is the ivey league pat downey?

Not all the baggage but man does he need to shut up already

It was a Wrestle Like a Girl singlet. Pletcher, Mueller & MyMar all wore them, but apparently the bros on the mic spoke not of them?

Apparently RBY was set to wear one, but something happened & he ended up wearing an NLWC singlet
