Technically, Thompson wasn't fired, his resignation was accepted early. He'd already told them he was leaving at the end of the season.

Thompson retired from Bangor with no issues 2 years ago. He got fired twice from Philipsburg for his coaching technique at practices. I've heard a few stories and they are hilarious.
Supposedly after the BECA lost to Liberty ,he didn't think his team was in good shape So he made them run 10 plus miles the next day. Kids bitched to parents ,who took it to school administration.
We are in the year 2019 and you know how it is going to play out when parents start complaining.

In college I roomed with a kid that wrestled for Slick Rick at P'burg in the mid 80's. I had heard some room stories, being that we wrestled them every year, but this kid told me some doozies. Lol. Ahhh, the good old days.

Ha!, there were many different scenarios. P'burg had a 2 time state champ, in the lower weights, and the kid didn't make weight for a match. He allegedly paid a dear, dear price for it at the hands of Thompson (who was a state champ himself)after practice. Kid never failed the scale again.
There were also some off the mat issues floating around, which is why I found the Beca dismissal ironic, with what happened there.

Supposedly when Rick was at Pburg, after a tough loss he told his kids they didn't deserve to wear the Stateliner singlet.
To prove his point ,he had his kids practice only in there jock straps after the loss.
Most of us 50 or older will laugh at this.
The younger generation might not find it to be so funny.
