Just saw a Facebook post showing the Nits arriving in style in Jacksonville. Beautiful plane accommodating two per aisle with all the amenities it appears. Meanwhile I hear the Blue Band gets to bus for 22 hours down to Jacksonville. As a Blue Band Alum that is tough to see. I doubt the current BB staff or kids are complaining. Just feels a little out of balance and somewhat like the old days. I thought we had made some strides but maybe not.

Was told that the University (Athletics?) is watching expenditures closely. We also flew in my day but I got to thinking....how many bowls existed in our day?, What did they pay in relation to now a day? My source was very much in the know!!!

Everyone is sacrificing. I heard Sandy is driving straight through (in her Subaru) to Jax.

Have to save money......so that they can set up 100 empty suits with first class accommodations - travel, hotel, dining - for a week........not to mention Sandy Barbours spring office renovation.

After all, it's ALL ABOUT THE STUDENTS!

The Blue Band is definitely going by bus. Total bulls%#t. As for the old days, we flew to the 3 bowl trips I went on.

Is the BB part of the Ath Dept budget? I know lots odf HS bands have fund raisers for their 'special ' trips.

You guys are lucky you're playing at all.;) Sorry. I do think that sucks.

To add to this:

In recent years....the Blue Band has flown. I checked with someone who had a prominent/visible position in the band, and during this person's tenure (which spanned Paterno and multiple coaching staffs).....the band did not fly down with the team. They flew on their own charter flight.

I rode on a bus from Clarion to Ft. Lauderdale for spring break in 1984. We had 40 cases of beer. I peed once, as the toilets were overflowing before we got out of Pennsylvania. I never slept. Had a great time once we got down there, but I flew home.

In my day Marching BB budget came out of athletics budget. That included uniforms, equip, travel to any away game. We also got .5 phys.ed credit up to 1.5 or something. All could be different now but I doubt it. I agree with stink, stank, Jim C. 2lion70 is correct. Many HS bands have fund raisers all year for a trip. BB isn't a HS band OR many HS f-ball teams have fund raisers for their banquets. Apples and oranges. PennsyOracle is clueless, I was ready to blast fair gambit but reread and laughed, but MtNittany and Psuro take the cake.

I'm almost positive the band today is ran out of the College of Arts & Architecture. That doesn't mean they receive no AD funding....but administration is out of A&A.

As for the rest of your comments........you, my friend, are the one who is talking about of your ass.

Why is PennsyOracle "clueless"? It seems as though he's provided first hand information. If anyone's post was clueless, it's your original post.

I agree that the team itself on a 747 is a bit much, but there's not reason to take shots at anyone.

The Blue Band budget is part of the athletic department. There....first hand info. He's clueless or I am. Now you take the shot. The 747 vs buses to Florida is the point of my post. You agree with that but now jump on me? I didn't even know they were out of H-burg. Where did you get that?

I think you need to re-read my post regarding where the band gets its funding.

You really need to have someone run a sense of humor tuneup on you if you think those posters you blasted were serious. Wry humor obviously confounds you.

So....in order to save some money - since the PSU ICA is "deep in the red"...the Blue Band takes a 20+ hour bus ride to Jacksonville (maybe they will be treated to a McDonald's Happy Meal en route)

While Barron, Tsunami Barbour, and the scores and scores of empty suits responsible for the fiscal disaster spend a week traveling first class, being put up in resort Hotels, and wining and dining on the PSU ICA budget.

Sorry.....but anyone who gives a dime to this sorry bunch of Scoundrels is simply naive.

You may be right, Barry.

But we have no idea what the reasoning behind the bus trip is. Until then, I'm not drawing any conclusions.

2011 should've taught you to do the same.

LOL

You have no idea why they bussed instead of flew a charter? Really?

Mr Oracle....you got a "figuring" problem. LOL

Maybe 2011 (and 2012, and 2013, and 2014, and 2015) ain't taught you nuttin'

There's probably 20 or 30 more "victims" lined up to collect their millions. And that, of course, is the responsibility of the athletic department.

IMO - they are STILL happy to be there!
