Just saw a Facebook post showing the Nits arriving in style in Jacksonville. Beautiful plane accommodating two per aisle with all the amenities it appears. Meanwhile I hear the Blue Band gets to bus for 22 hours down to Jacksonville. As a Blue Band Alum that is tough to see. I doubt the current BB staff or kids are complaining. Just feels a little out of balance and somewhat like the old days. I thought we had made some strides but maybe not.

When I was in the Blue Band, we flew to bowl games. Why did they bus? Bowl money should cover the flights.

If that were the case, why not fly the usual 737-800 out of UNV? Eliminates the need to charter busses to Harrisburg.

A 747 out of MDT for an hour and 40 min flight is absurd.

The Blue Band is not part of the athletic department.

It is actually a class that each member signs up for.

In recent years....the Blue Band has flown. I checked with someone who had a prominent/visible position in the band, and during this person's tenure (which spanned Paterno and multiple coaching staffs).....the band did not fly down with the team. They flew on their own charter flight.

I rode on a bus from Clarion to Ft. Lauderdale for spring break in 1984. We had 40 cases of beer. I peed once, as the toilets were overflowing before we got out of Pennsylvania. I never slept. Had a great time once we got down there, but I flew home.

I'm almost positive the band today is ran out of the College of Arts & Architecture. That doesn't mean they receive no AD funding....but administration is out of A&A.

I agree that the team itself on a 747 is a bit much, but there's not reason to take shots at anyone.
