Most schools said to be somewhat distraught after meetings Sat-Tue. There is a move on to compromise with FSU and Clemson.

Most ACC schools said to be very open to private equity especially over the last 4-5 days. sPitt SYR Wake Forest in line with UNC want private equity so long as once they give FSU and Clemson what they want and are gone the Conference comes together for the conference to insure the conference survives and thrives. But make no mistake about it that the ACC is more trouble now than ever before. So far no word on ESPN's input but it seems that ESPN is on the side of a compromise between the league and FSU/Clemson.

Big XII? I wouldn't completely rule out the SEC
Perhaps if the other Big12 schools agree to an unequal revenue share, but I don’t think they would. It has to move the tv dollar needle for SEC. It may not since they are in those states. Neither school has AAU accreditation, which is a B1G requirement. Now the B1G would love to be in Florida, and Miami and South Florida are the only schools in the state with AAU accreditation.

Thank goodness we didn't join the ACC (not that that was an option PSU considered at any time). We would have brought a lot of value to the conference, but we'd be looking to bail now as well. For all the complaints about the B10 it's been great for us. How could you not want to be part of one of the two true super conferences?

In addition to adding the value to our football team and our athletic department, it lifted up many other sports. I can't imagine PSU wrestling not in the B10. Women's' volleyball as well.

The only thing I struggle with is how one of the premiere B-ball conferences could just go away if the ACC ever dissolves.

The ACC would not be in this situation if we were in that conference.

Any link?

That’s disappointing. The sooner the ACC blows up and we can return to the Big East, the better.
It's hard to tell where this will go but there are enough holdouts to save the league in some form and PITT is a big proponent of that. IMO the ACC would have to invite lesser teams to fill some spots. Probably teams within that region.

If that happens, the real question is what does Miami do? Are they going to double down and lock themselves in an ACC (that no longer has FSU and Clemson) or do they look elsewhere?

If the Big Ten was ever going to get into Florida it would be now (assuming the above is true). They should take FSU and Miami.

I don't believe Nebraska is an AAU School - the only one who isn't in the Big10 so exceptions have been made in the past.

They were AAU when they were invited into the conference and Neb has since lost accreditation.
True- with Big Ten member schools voting to remove Nebraska’s AAU accreditation so it’s a bit of back and forth as to how mandatory it really is for the Big Ten.

That said, clearly the Big Ten would prefer AAU status and both Nebraska and FSU are working toward that. From what I’ve read, both schools had issues with their med schools (and associated research) being separate from the university system which dinged them in the eyes of AAU. Both are working to change that now.

What does a Big East for football look like in 2024? You want to play UConn and UMass? Temple?
To be honest, I don’t care what football conference we end up in. I’m a hoops fan first and would do anything to return to our rightful home. Give me a Big East football conference that looks something like this:
  • Army (football-only)
  • Boston College
  • Navy (football-only)
  • Pittsburgh
  • Syracuse
  • Temple (football-only)
  • UConn
  • Villanova (move up from FBS)

If schools start defecting, they’ll likely go for Oregon State and Wazzu first (former P5; appeases Cal/Stanford). Then they’d go for UConn and South Florida, maybe Tulane.

If they lose members, the ACC’s goal would be to appear like a power conference as long as they can; inviting former Pac-10, Big East, and SEC schools would be an attempt to create that facade.

Personally, I’d hate it if Pitt goes along with it. I’d much rather be in a basketball-first conference than whatever that bastardized conglomerate would be.

WSU and Or St sit on a Pac 12 pot of gold from the former power conference. They’re not leaving their conference.

That's just awful for football. I respect you caring about hoops but Pitt needs the money from football--that's not giving them any money.

What football money? The Pac-12’s new deal is expected to be around $12M per school. If the ACC dissolved in a similar fashion, there isn’t much difference between that and the Big East ($8M).

You aren't getting any money in that conference--they'll be broadcasting their own games if they're even on TV
Pitt needs to do everything possible to save the ACC or get into the Big XII

If Pitt, BC, and Syracuse were to return to the Big East, and it included a few football games, I bet we could get $12-15M. Football wouldn’t be the main point.

The reason the Big East dissolved was because Basketball was considered the main point. Long history on that topic and commissioners admitting the mistake. Basketball simply does not have the power.

Football is the main point. Basketball can't carry a league. And, no, that league isn't getting 12-15M per school. They'd be on a streaming network producing their own games.

Just asking.....
What is a regional conference?
It was a midwest only conference with midwest audience and little interest outside the midwest prior to 1993. The addition of PSU extended its reach and interest into the northeast. Maryland and Rutgers further expanded the footprint and media audience in the mid-Atlantic. I do not think the conference tv valuation and ultimate westward expansion happens without PSU.

Why not? They’re already getting $8M per school. Adding those three schools would most certainly create a bump in TV revenue for the best basketball league in the country. Throw Big East football on The CW for all I care!

Football keeps the lights on in the athletic department, not bball. Pitt is severely damaged in your hypothetical. Do Pitt fans hate Pitt more than we do?
