ACC News

Why not? They’re already getting $8M per school. Adding those three schools would most certainly create a bump in TV revenue for the best basketball league in the country. Throw Big East football on The CW for all I care!
8M for basketball
We're discussing the football contract which would be nonexistent. It doesn't matter that you don't care about football. That's where the money comes from. You're losing 40M or so here. Pitt can't survive that.

Football keeps the lights on in the athletic department, not bball. Pitt is severely damaged in your hypothetical. Do Pitt fans hate Pitt more than we do?
Pitt…..quite literally one of the leaders in that mistake along with Dave Gavitt and Jake Crouthamel. No one will make that mistake again.

Thank goodness we didn't join the ACC (not that that was an option PSU considered at any time). We would have brought a lot of value to the conference, but we'd be looking to bail now as well. For all the complaints about the B10 it's been great for us. How could you not want to be part of one of the two true super conferences?

In addition to adding the value to our football team and our athletic department, it lifted up many other sports. I can't imagine PSU wrestling not in the B10. Women's' volleyball as well.

The only thing I struggle with is how one of the premiere B-ball conferences could just go away if the ACC ever dissolves.
But if we would have joined the ACC years ago, became one of its premiere programs, maybe now the Big would roll out the red carpet for us to join as opposed to us being the first and breaking up the good ole boys club and being treated like an unwanted house guest for years.

We were/are one of the Big Ten's premier programs. Have been since Day 1. Stop with the nonsense.

If you’re referring to the Big East Penn State vote, that was not on Pitt. In fact, Pitt wasn’t even in the Big East when that vote took place. It was Georgetown, St. John’s, and Villanova who cast the deciding “no’s.”

I find this back and forth argument mostly ridiculous. No one knows what would have happened if PSU joined the ACC. That's an alternate universe that we will never know.

What IS 100% certain is that the move to the B1G, although most of agree that it's the B2G and that n-2 teams are treated like 2nd class citizens, has resulted in PSU having a huge AD budget and through all of the turmoil, not having to worry about its future.

BUT, we have no idea how the last decade would have played out if Joe got his Eastern conference or if PSU had joined the ACC.

I thought Syracuse was a no vote too. Let's face it in the east we were all stupid and petty and that's why we are spread out all over.

Pitt and Syracuse decided to follow the invitation into the Big East instead of following Joe’s plan to form an all sports conference. They didn’t vote no, they just ignored football and followed the basketball path.

It was a midwest only conference with midwest audience and little interest outside the midwest prior to 1993. The addition of PSU extended its reach and interest into the northeast. Maryland and Rutgers further expanded the footprint and media audience in the mid-Atlantic. I do not think the conference tv valuation and ultimate westward expansion happens without PSU.
