Can I respectfully suggest we replace "won" with "claimed."But will it be big enough to hang the 23 national championship banners they have won?

Yup...and hang the banners behind all those empty yellow seats! Can I respectfully suggest we replace "won" with "claimed."
Claimed is correct—all but a couple take bogus to an unprecedented levelCan I respectfully suggest we replace "won" with "claimed."
Pitt football is dead. We only play 1 more time. You handily won last year. But yet there are 0 threads about Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Maryland, or anyone else that you should be concerned about on your board. Pitt is the only school you guys want to talk about. Strange.
Indiana and Ohio State beg to differ.
The only time I was in Pittsburgh was when I drove through it in 1992. Do they have room on their campus to build a 45,000 seat stadium? I think that would be a good start.
Without a campus or stadium and years of mediocrity at best, it was inevitable, the economy, ACC, new culture, etc. etc. etc?
As someone else mentioned, the decline of the WPIAL has worked against them in the longer-term.
In the shorter-term, they've made some poor tactical choices. Tearing down Pitt Stadium was tactical error #1. A number of their coaching hires (Paul Hackett, Major Harris version 2.0, Walt) were significant tactical errors as well.
Honestly, Pitt football today is just an ACC-version of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Except UC actually still plays in their classic on-campus stadium.
A great what if --- what if Pitt was invited to the B1G instead of Michigan State in the early 1950s. It did almost happen. OSU was the big opposition to Pitt.
There are 0 threads on the 1st Page of the Pitt message board directly related to PSU. The closest thread deals with LaMont Wade. There are 3 different threads directly related to Pitt on the first page of your board. #Facts
Weird thing about Pitt is the few players they sent to the league are HOF caliber: Larry Fitz, Shady, Revis, and Donald.
Pitt isn’t dead, what they are now is pretty much their standard since WW2.
The had a really good run for 10-12 years in the 70’s and 80’s. The had that booster club doing got knows what and a glut of really good players locally. It was right place right time for a while, but they have simply reverted back to their historical mean in the modern era.
He would have made a great LB’er.While I think most would agree that the HOF is not selective enough in any sport, and is essentially the hall of very good. The weird thing about having an NFL HOF worthy career is that it in no way changes how mediocre Pitt was when that player was there. Does Pitt have a couple, sure... but it's completely irrelevant to Pitt football. As to how they get these kids:
Sometimes they take on a kid that is highly talented but has some baggage, so other schools pass.
Sometimes they get lucky with a local kid.
Sometimes a player who accomplished nothing while at Pitt, and arrived in the NFL fresh due to their pathetically weak conference, turns out to be a good player.
It's really just part of the cosmic joke. Make just a few players great in the NFL, while Pitt is stuck in misery.
I don't know why you list Larry Fitz, the pride of the university of Phoenix:
Would care to explain these posts of yours to everyone here.He would have made a great LB’er.
In all honesty, I would not support Pitt football if something similar happened at Pitt. I was a devout Catholic who left the Catholic Church because of what happened.Would care to explain these posts of yours to everyone here.

Or hire officials that played at PS like Paterno did. The Guman Crew.

There is nothing that could occur at PS that would stop the machine. Franklin could go on a murder spree, sanctions for cheating, players charged with gang rape, etc. Nothing matters to Nits, but winning football games. If need be, PS would fire Franklin and pay the next guy 10 million.

I have stated numerous times that Pitt is an 8-5 type program with a good coach. I am not sure what is so complicated about that. I don’t even watch PS since the Rape Scandal. I turned my back on them just like they did those children. I am not sure how your rant on them factors into this topic.

The sickening part is how the media is building them up again after what transpired. It is a football before ANYTHING culture even when it comes to covering up a football coach who raped children. They would do the same exact thing if it were to happen again. Sad but true. I will be watching Game 7, USC vs ND, and any other good games. I turn my back on them just like they did those rape victims.

The Guman Crew comment is accurate.
The one comment is recent, but the other stuff was from 2017. I will do my best to turn over a new leaf.
This is interesting, it now appears that we are attempting to convert pagans.Well considering nothing happened at PSU, you should stop supporting Pitt now.
It's a Pro Town not a College Town!Without a campus or stadium and years of mediocrity at best, it was inevitable, the economy, ACC, new culture, etc. etc. etc?
Really it's just 6 seasons, from 1976-1981.
Would care to explain these posts of yours to everyone here.

Actually, they peaked in the late 30's. Since then, they were only really good during the Golden Panther era.

"Pitt bought better players. Fans soon engorged the stadium. Sutherland won five national championships between 1929 and 1937, and, Wallace says, players were rewarded with cash under the table."
IMHO, when they ore down the old stadium and signed up to play at Heinz it was strike one. At the core of any college team, is the student section. I watch the student section as much as I watch the team at home games.
The next was when they fired Wanny. Here is a Pitt legend who was fired by a dufus AD and then he hired a dufus coach. That led to Phil Bennett, Todd Graham, Keith Patterson, Paul Chryst, Joe Rudolf and now the Duzzer.
I am not sure if Beenett, patterson or Rudolph even coached one game. Of those, the longest tenur is Chryst, 3 years, who left for Wisconsin.
Agree...but that is true of Pitt football since the '70s. They've really not been competitive, on the national stage, since Wanny.Pitt FB wasn't exactly great before and during Wanny. They were aspiring to be average and talking about building fences around the WPIAL...which was as porous as the Southern border.
I think it's pretty "Ironic" that you're over here trolling a Penn State football board.
Their game-day football experience is similar to PSU’s game-day basketball experience. They play in a facility that is very seldom even close to half-full.
Another way to think about it: think about the PSU’s football players’ ride to the stadium on game days.....then think about Pitt’s football players’ ride to the stadium on game days.
There simply is no great reason in the world to be excited to play football at Pitt if you have ANY other opportunity to play elsewhere unless you played high school football in the Pittsburgh area and wanted to stay home to be close to friends and family.
They haven’t recruited Florida well talent wise just in volume. In Florida they just pick up a lot of scraps that no one else really wanted. It’s hard to argue with any of this. Somehow, they’ve recruited Florida really well. But, look at how many WPIAL kids are making an impact on this roster. Hamlin is really the only one, and he’s marginal, at best.
