All the talk about Cliff and nobody's mentioned that he's 2-1 vs. scUM with his loss being last year when...

.....he was less than 100% health-wise which probably limited his ability to run.
It will not be a surprise, at least to me, if Franklin turns Clifford loose in the run game. Making UM respect his running will remove at least one of UM's box defenders from jamming up the lanes for Singleton and Allen which will lead to some chunk plays against the over rated UM defense. Can't wait!

Get a legit backup QB ready to play in September and then throw caution to the wind and go for a 3 game October sweep of murder's row!!!

Actually 1-1. Remember, 2020 didn't happen.

No, no: he is 2-1; .666 winning percentage, which is pretty good.

JJ McCarthy is 1-0; 1.000 winning percentage.

Its like you guys dont realize that Clifford is wearing a knee brace made for O-lineman this year. He's not running against anyone.

Agree. I think he's held back on this aspect of their offense, possibly with the risk for injury, but we are in the meat of the season that matters. It could partially neutralize an aggressive UM defense...and maybe loosen things up for the deep pass.

Guys he is wearing a huge knee brace. He can't run like he used to.

Also could explain his efforts to get DA significant playing time.... probably wanted to see him in action so he was comfortable going to him if Cliff gets banged up when they turn him loose running.

In addition, the staff had circled the Auburn road-game as a critical game and they had a different gameplan in regards to Cliff for that game.

We have two ways to beat Michigan this weekend:

1. Knee brace or no knee brace you let Cliff run the football and open up the offense for everything else.
OR
2. You put the kid in and let him throw it all over the yard.

We don't win this weekend with a status quo Clifford.

The other thing about Cliff is that he seems to play much better when he is green-lighted to scramble or run (i.e., designed QB runs). Some QBs are like this - they just play better and feel the action better when they're part of both the running and passing game.

Absolutely!! IMO it is what the offense is missing right now. The defense isn't scared of Clifford pulling the ball and going. I know he is banged up but the D has to respect his legs this week. Heck even if it is for 6-7 yards at a time it will open everything else up.

It's pretty clear that no, Cliff will not be running for yards. Hopefully he is not running away from too many sacks/pressures.

Jordan Stout completed more passes than McCarthy last year.

McCarthy has never throw a pass against PSU (and I don't believe he ever took a snap).

I'm pretty sure he doesn't get credit for that win.

Again: football isn't baseball. Everyone on the winning team gets to share in wins and losses.

Technically no one even gets assigned wins and losses if we want to be pedantic. As you said, this isn't baseball.

McCarthy is 0-0 as a starter against Penn State. Moving on.

And then, Clifford is also 0-0. Technically.

Meanwhile, Harbaugh is 4-3 vs Franklin. Combined score of 191-147.

Yep, I wore the same knee brace for years after my ACL repair. A common precaution. Oh, and the Olinemen that wear it pull, run, and jump on top of defenders. A knee brace is a precaution that does not preclude the wearer from running.........

And that knee brace is not "made for O-linemen". It's the same knee brace that has been in use for years to prevent over-extension of the knee and protect knees from many injuries including ACL tears and is used by athletes across many sports by players playing many positions.....

Olinemen do get mixed up in the line of scrimmage action and get more opportunities for the leg hyper-extensions and jams that cause cartilage and ACL damage, and many teams provide them for Olinemen as a precaution.

Yep, he doesn't need to save himself for the CFL......
;)

This is his last hurrah and I'm betting he goes out laying all his cards on the table.

O-lineman are not meant to try to run for first downs.
