how cool would it be if your HS produced this much talent....

I get football. Texas high school football is taken seriously.

But wrestling? Does Texas have other high schools with wrestling programs?
I’m not aware of any other “major” (talent rich) programs there—but the Ferrari’s were there too, might be again.

Edit: Nick Reenan went to Highland Park, another Dallas/FW suburb.

Alllen TX Median income: ~$100k
Highland Park: ~$200k

My guess is if you have the means and you have an elite athlete kid, you move from hundreds of miles to NE Dallas.

For a number of years Bishop Lynch was THE wrestling mecca in Texas attracting talented kids from other states.

there was another NCAA finalist from Texas this season, from a prep school but still, there is definitely some talent in that state. Texas could be a major player in coming years in terms of producing qualifiers and AAs.

Well done by Bo at the PSWC Social after the NCAA finals Saturday night...he joked about Texas wrestling being on the map, and something about being on par with Pennsylvania wrestling.

Tongue-in-cheek, and drew laughter...but I suspect his college career will draw many, many Texas kids to wrestling. He has had, and will continue to have an impact on youth.

Allen has one large HS into which all lower grades funnel, as opposed to having multiple smaller high schools like most cities in the area. The city’s population is over 100K. So Allen HS fields sports teams that are analogous to competitors in other area cities creating an all-star team from among their several high schools. This has helped them become a football dynasty for years.

BTW, as impressive as Allen’s football stadium is it’s not the biggest or most expensive HS stadium in Texas.

Who holds that distinction now? I know at one time Allen was tops, but I’m sure it’s an arms race.

sorry, thought it was longer than that. Know it was done in 2012, and open in 2016. Guess it was open for a couple of years before closing for repairs.

The stadium was fully functional in year 1 and then shut down for repairs in year 2. Allen played all their games away and still went undefeated and won a State Title thanks to some QB named Kyler Murray.

That would be good but I doubt it. Dallas papers is nothing but football, basketball and some baseball/ hockey mixed in. The majority resident still think the word ‘studio’ prefaces wrestling. Hopefully this does create a grass root increase!!

Cup-half-full thinking says there's a chance. According to NFHS data, Texas has 344 high schools with wrestling, and 10,735 kids participating. Compare this to their 11-player football stats, 1217 schools, and 164,664 kids. The wrestling community there isn't tiny, I'm guessing most of them have heard of Bo, regardless of what's in the Dallas paper. Hopeful, that's all, even if the growth is slow.

yep, my half-full view was 'hopefully'. I often wonder how much difference more local reporting would have. For example, the hometown papers usually have full HS basketball coverage - all schools, while wrestling is covered but simply not as much. I know some areas this isn't true - I am originally from central Pa. Getting the Richmond Times Dispatch - well the coverage has actually decreased... but then again hard copy papers have as well...

One of the worst trends in our society.

Agree. Still wake up early, and go outside to retrieve my paper (a shell of its former self, btw). Funny that your post (sharing news through the internet) is an example of why print media is in decline. I guess it's Al Gore's fault :(.
At least you can go out and pick it up. Both major Oklahoma papers quit home delivery in my hometown-I guess the paperboys (and girls) got too expensive. But for the same price, I can read the on-line addition  or I could if my wife would let me put a computer on the table during breakfast.

Much prefer the old fashioned paper.

Me too but I train my dog to retrieve it! What man's best friend will do for a biscuit!

Indeed, irony abounds. The main problem is, people used to be willing to subsidize local news and investigative deep dives to get their coupons, Dick Tracey and the box scores. Now entertainment and shopping is available from any number of outlets that don’t have that financial burden.
