Just a completely wild speculative, optimistic guess on my part...I'm calling a 2/12 return vs. Lehigh!

WE ARE!!!

Yeah, its tough to predict. He's obviously not back this weekend and even if he was ready, are you going to throw him out there against Coon in his first match...likely not. Same goes for next weekend, Cael's not going to have his first match be against Snyder. That seems to point to the 2/12 prediction to get matches in against Lehigh and MSU. The problem becomes match 3 which at this point would either be Gwiz or Marsden. Not a real easy re-entry for Nevills.

That's why Lehigh makes the most sense. At least that gives him two matches under his belt before a big match against Gwiz/Marsden.

It only makes sense if he's ready...which I doubt too many here knows. I would suggest listening to the Coaches Show for the next couple weeks, it'll surely come up. If not by Jeff, then I know a member of the audience that can ask ;).

I will say this, if we don't see him back the weekend of 2/12, he's not coming back this year in my opinion. He's not going to B10's without having any matches under his belt and his first match back will not be against Gwiz or Marsden.

Hence, the "completely wild, speculative" part of my post. Of course no one on here knows if he's ready or not.
It's damn fun to guess though! And Lehigh definitely makes the most sense.

...Lehigh's heavyweight - Max Wessel - would be a very tough opponent...

...I believe he has several national Judo crowns and is an accomplished, veteran wrestler...

...was Colorado state champion and OW in 2012...

...placed EIWA 7th in 2012-2013...
...placed EIWA 3rd in 2013-2014...
...did not wrestle last year due to injury...
...is currently 17-3 with one loss being overtime SV 4-6 vs 2nd ranked Kroells of Minnesota...

If ready, could he go in the Edinboro Open next weekend? Get a couple matches, play it by ear, default out when/if he's feeling tuckered out.

I'm not generally one to read between the lines but on the radio show Wednesday night it sure sounded like Cael expected Nevills to go this season. Of course, I may have been hallucinating. :D

IF he's ready, I think this would be a great move. I'm sure that rolling around with Varner, Cael, and Gingrich (is he still with the NLWC?) is great practice, but there is no substitute for actual match experience.

i agree with you... Cael went as far as saying he needs to be ready for someone ripping his arm off.... or something similar... I wish someone would have asked him how 'wrestle-offs' will go - will Johnson/Phipps challenge or is it not even a question...(I would hope to assume)

They can do live wrestling in practice and they do and that would be WAY more competition than anyone at the Edinboro Open. Plus, I'm not sure what effect wrestling there would have on the potential for a 6th year, but I'm guessing that would put an end to that possibility.

...as I remember Aaron Anspach lost his appeal for a 6th year because he appeared UA in a similar tourney while rehabbing...

It doesn't seem like the emphasis is on keeping year option for him, it seems to me at least, that the emphasis is on getting him ready to compete this year. I realize of course that they do live wrestling in practice, but I still say you can't completely simulate the bright lights of actual competition. The bright lights I'm referring to, are wrestling at rec hall, or B1G's or Nationals, not so much the Edinboro open!

Yes, Nova, I heard the same thing. For those who missed Wednesday's Coaches Show, it is still available On-Demand. Cael addresses Nevills at the 26:00 mark and again at the 36:00 mark. "There are no guarantees in this sport." If he can go this year (and it sure sounds like he will be able to), he goes.

Hey he was right with Marsden last year then he got hurt....A very healthy Nivells with at least 10 matches under his belt will beat him....

Nevills will be lucky to get 10 matches title this season. I do agree that a healthy match ready Nevills could beat Marsden, it'd be a good match.
