... he appeared to be in deep pain ...
...I hope it was not as severe as it first looked...

What was the injury, or at least to what body part? I remember hearing he was injured but never really heard what happened.

I am not surprised that nothing to not much has been said given the medical privacy law and prior experience with this issue.

I am not asking for anything confidential, just someone that watched the match, what happened, did he limp away, hold his arm, take injury time and not continue. Androcles said he seemed in deep pain, just looking for a little bit more detail.

I believed it was an ankle. Limped back and finished the last 15 seconds or so of the match.

IIRC Beyer's said it looked pretty bad. There was a poster on this site who said the same. He was at the tournament.

It looked bad. I thought he would forfeit. Surprised he continued, and it was close. Alot like that one injury, to that one kid.... Hope Cortez sticks around.

He just can’t catch a break, I’d imagine at this point he’d be eligible for a 6th year after next season.

He basically finished the match on one foot and then Cody picked him up in his arms and carried him out of the gymnasium. My wife thought it was the sweetest thing to see a coach carry his wrestler like that. That being said...didn't look good. He couldn't put any weight on it at all.

I saw Jared with a boot on his ankle the next morning. We spoke briefly and he seemed to be dealing well with his bad luck.

Downey ahead in line
Not by much and Downey will be done in a few months. Cortez turned 20 the year he graduated high school. A 6th year in college will have him older than Downey is now... as a matter of fact he may be older than Downey is now at some point next year. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
As to a 6th year, other than possibly getting some grad school paid (how much could PSU possibly allocate to a projected non starter), what would be the point with Lee and others there?

If he's on top of things with the books Cortez is a likely grad transfer. Maybe rare transfer with 2 years left if he gets that 6th year.
