Just trying to see as many venues as I can and was thinking of going there next year for one of their games as it’s only about a 3 hour drive. Anyone ever go? How was it, is it worth it? TIA

I’ve been to quite a few games there. It’s a good venue as long as you’re not a fan of the visiting team.
I plan on wearing a West Virginia shirt and maybe going for the Maryland or TCU game. Not the craziest of opponents but I don’t want to see them play Oklahoma just too get smashed.

I went to the OK game last year. Nice stadium. People were very nice. Had a great time.

I have a lot of friends who go to every one of them. The new coach, Neil Brown, seems to be doing a good job. The reason Holgerson left is that his recruiting was poor and they had little to nothing coming back. Brown will slowly build it up again. About a 65k seat stadium, not a bad seat in the place. They serve beer in the stadium.

MD has been off the schedule for a while, but there is extreme bitterness between the teams and fanbases. TCU, even tho it is a league game, will likely involve slightly fewer drunken yahoos than the MD game. btw, I went to grad school there, and probably went to 10 games or so during my 3 years.

Be very careful......I went in 1991 in Morgantown.....met a girl and was married in 1993. Just to answer questions that may come up.....yes the marriage was consensual, no it was not a shot gun wedding, and lastly and most importantly she was 23 years of age when I met her.

I saw them beat Maryland in overtime there in 2004. At the end of regulation, fans sitting near me were asking me the overtime rules, which were established in 1996. They're a little slow.

My current wife may not approve if I were to get married again.

PSU only lost to WVU twice that I remember, and I was there for the first in 1984. Started out normal enough with the goal posts coming down but it got crazy and a little scary. I was not dumb enough to go there in PSU garb, but it didn't matter later that night in Morgantown. Mad max comes to mind. Felt lucky to leave in one piece.

My daughter is a senior there now and we have made it to at least one game each of the years she has been there. They have a fun game day atmosphere with plenty of tailgating. The players march by the parking lots into the stadium "The Man Walk" which is fun to see. Coach Brown now insists that they wear a sports coat and tie and interact with the fans. They also stop and waive to the children at the hospital by the stadium which is a nice touch. All in all....we have never had a bad time and find the fans to be passionate and fun to drink with....even if its moonshine.

Did you go to a game or a family reunion????;)

I saw ND play at WVU a while back, late 90’s early 00’s I think. It was a good experience, although we didn’t go out downtown at all.

I was there in 1988, when Major Harris led WVU to the win over PSU. It was a crazy scene, but not out of hand. I proudly was wearing PSU attire and didn't have any issues. I think we did see a couch or two burned that day while going back to the tailgate.

demlion interrogates all visitors at the border. Anyone who doesn’t think like him is denied entry.

I'm an old timer who started going to West Virginia/Penn State games with my parents in the early 50s and in the 20 or so games I attended in Morgantown never had a bit of trouble. They do love their Mountaineers....great atmosphere!!!

In my opinion posters on chat sites such as this overstate the behavior of our rivals' fans. 90/95% of those who attend college games are perfectly fine. Go and have a good time!!!

So if 10,000 fans go to a game, 500-1000 are not fine?

That reminds me of the line I heard from A. Whitney Brown on SNL a long time ago (back when China only had about a billion people) that goes "In China, even if you're one in a million, there are still a thousand other people just like you."

But how was she related to you prior to the wedding? (I kid)

WVU is my 2nd favorite team because my dad went there for his masters degree and (more importantly) my older brother went there...many good road trips to Morgantown while I was still in HS. Game day is WILD there, with things you’ll not see in many other venues (moonshine for one). Fans have a rowdy reputation, but they’re really not much different from any other rowdies. Go. Have fun.

Great atmosphere very similar to Happy Valley only on a much smaller scale. Lots of party tents where companies put out hugh spreads for the fans, WVU fans are different but they are great. Go for it, you'll enjoy it if you are a college football fan. Do not where garb of the visiting team.

It has been many years but I attended a Va Tech vs WVU game years ago when they were both in the Big east. It was a fun experience.

You left out the part about her not being your cousin.

The atmosphere is still electric and we know we are going to be good again soon. Next year around eight wins and then the following year we will challenge for the Big 12. Anyways come to the Oklahoma game if you can. It will be electric.

Wolve must like yellow and blue a lot.

Don't wear anything that says Penn State. If you do, pack a gun.

I first went to WVU back in 1970 or so. I have been there a number of times since then and I have always enjoyed myself.

My worst experience going to a game was at PSU for the tOSU White Out about ten years ago. Unfortunately, I had parking from a friend at his spot in the lot adjacent to the stadium. I had kids surround my car and I had to threaten a couple drunks who thought it was a good idea to stand on my hood. After the game my son and I accompanied an older couple in tOSU gear out of the stadium, because more drunk fools thought it was a good thing to intimidate them.

Story is you have fools and drunks at all stadiums. You just have to behave yourself and not join in on the alcohol and other substances that cause people to lose their common sense.

Be sure to swing by Federal Correctional Institution Morgantown (it’s about 3 miles south of Mountaineer Field) and say hi to Penn State (and Georgetown) alumnus Rufus Seth Williams. Better hurry, though. He’s scheduled for release at the end of September.

WVU and Major Harris smoked us in 88. I think they were up like 41-8 at halftime or something.

Thanks for all the kind words about Wvu.My wife (second cousin) got her masters from Wvu and she had to actually attend classes to get it.Unlike how Heather Bresch of Mylan Fame got her's.

Voluntarily?

I'll vouch for this because I was there. I think this was the game where their fans rushed the field with time on the clock. Joe pulled the team off the field and into the locker room. This may have been the Major Harris game.
[edit] I see that 1988 was the Major Harris game.
