Anyone think the USWNT stuff is over the top

Wasn't an analogy; was a fact. You can interpret or apply it any way you want though.

Or you could say Game 7 had 23.5 million. I'm not trying to take away from the good ratings of the soccer. I don't think you can expect to have regional teams compare to national teams in terms of viewership though either.

But to answer you're question, yes. You've got all these slavering girl-power Title IX zealots screaming that the women deserve as much money as the men despite a massive difference in ad revenue, etc.

I love that we won and enjoy it for what it is, but our U19 boys National Team would smoke them. They'd have to all be back around their own goal or the guys would beat their offside trap with impunity.

Yes, men are bigger, faster, stronger, etc. Goes for every sport.

Yes, I'll admit to my ignorance at not liking soccer. Many times I've prayed to God to even try and achieve your apparent level of intelligence.
You seem threatened by change. That's sad. As for praying, I don't believe in a God so I guess do what you have to do to sleep at night.

Anyway, most people who say they don't like soccer are people that watch 3 games every 4 years. That type of person is ignorant and will not be taken seriously in their opinion of the game. When i was a kid I thought soccer was for "sissies" and made fun of it and people who played. I grew up.

As I grew older baseball became a bore. I have zero interest. Maybe it's because the Phillies are terrible, but I haven't watch a game in years. it's dreadful. Meanwhile, networks can't seem to pay enough for the rights to each top division in world football.

I'm not smarter than you, I just apparently adapt to change better and don't need to rely on a fake God to get me through my sport adaptations.

Btw, that was a weird comment about praying to God, very weird. You were so threatened by my opinion on soccer that you had to turn to God. Bless your heart. Or, God bless your heart, or whatever makes you feel better.

No money in women's soccer - you wouldn't see a top guy retire at that age (except in insanely rare circumstances) as who would walk away from 100-250k a week.

Yep only in America do the top players get paid and it is still way off from what the men make. I think Morgan makes 500k and that will go up even more due to the endorsements coming off of this WC.

Here we go! Its our once every 4 years (Special 2 year edition) discussion on how popular soccer is

I guess you missed the posts about the USA gold cup. USA men beating Germany and Holland.
All of the english Premier League posts and the Copa America posts.

uhhhhhhh not sure if you have any idea of what you are talking about.
The top soccer players make FAR FAR more than the top NFL players.
Most make more than NBA players. Forbes has Messi and Ronaldo above Lebron and Durant for top paid athletes.
I am talking about soccer in THIS NATION, compared to NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. I am not referring to WORLD soccer(La Liga, Serie A, Premier League, etc). Yes, TOP soccer players WORLDWIDE make the most money, but the none of those players are American, or ever will be most likely. Tim Howard plays for Everton in the premier league, Altidore was a substitute for the past two years on a borderline relegation side in England. OUR professional soccer league does not offer the wealth that the NFL, MLB, and NBA offers for those that achieve the highest level. I am quite certain what I am talking about, so make sure you have more than Messi or Ronaldo as "evidence" that youth players in this nation should be persuaded to follow through on the sport as children.

True, but which sports provide the best opportunity to go pro? The top players in all the top sports get paid, but they are the exceptions. In terms of playing a pro sport, soccer by far presents the greatest opportunity.

The money aspect never made much sense to me. Does a 10 year old really consider the financial ramifications before deciding which sport he'd like to play? Perhaps the parents do, but is it likely that a parent will steer his phenom level soccer playing kid to a sport where he is mediocre in the hopes of being a pro? If they do, those parents are psychos.

The odds of becoming a professional athlete are slim to none, and those that eventually make it usually were playing at an extraordinary level as a kid, and this is especially the case with soccer players. The difference between US kids and kids elsewhere is explained by the academy systems and exposure. The exposure factor is pretty much gone now that the sport is ubiquitous at the youth level. The development system is the biggest difference. But you can still see progress - look at the American youths, kids 20 and under, that are playing overseas and have been for years.

Now I have to pray to God that some of us recognize sarcasm when they see it. What the hell "change" am I supposedly being threatened by? I don't watch baseball either. Why did you assume that I did?

Oh yea. Big Time!

CNN ran a related article for 4 days on two lesbo's kissing after the victory.....One of which was a team player. I don't recall CNN doing that (for 4 days) for a heterosexual couple in recent memory.

You're a homophobe -- well, a lesbophobe, anyway.

This report says baseball but you might have meant worldwide and probably non-collegiate athletes. This one says hockey. You thought it was soccer by far based on what data?

True - I choose to ignore soccer

simply for one reason... low-scoring affairs/ties/zero-zero ties/pansies flopping/knee socks short-shorts and pointy shoes/penalty kicks settling contests/time being added on the clock by officials for arbitrary reasons (that would NEVER happen in FB :)/ whiny soccer fans claiming the sport simply isn't given its due/soccer players in my HS were sullen ninnies/soccer fans grasping on every straw as a sign their sport has gained mainstream viewing popularity/whiny soccer fans/team-names that are simply femmy

I will never question the athleticism and skill and physical demands of the sport... I just don't enjoy watching it. IMHO lacrosse has far-greater potential as a US viewer-event, and, eventually, will evolve into a college/professional sport that will far exceed soccer in the US (after NFL is dumbed-down physically and rendered toothless due to long-term injury lawsuits) ... may take 20-50yrs , but it will happen
I am not a big soccer fan but, when it comes to flopping the men's teams are a joke. I think the women play with more intensity and far less flopping..

Yes. It's the same thing every 4 years or so. The country backs a team with 'USA' on the jersey at big events like the World Cup and the Olympics (as they should). The media then goes on and on about them if they win. Then the country goes back to ignoring the team until the next World Cup/ Olympics.
it's a process. soccer is definitely coming on. this is not a bad thing.

Yeah...and I don't understand why this seems to be threatening, or pissing people off. its a wonderful sport and very popular. If nothing else, is another opportunity for players and spectators alike. Not to wear it out but...it is what it is....shake it off.
