At Large Bids

Meyer got in. Edsell beat him.

Fish and Formato got in. Both were pinned by Carlson, who Edsell beat at Big Tens. They forget to check the transitive property of wrestling criteria.
H2h not what we thought it was.....in light of the MFF f** .....maybe not wrestling is actually what the committee wants

As I said, not a well rounded enough team.

I’m not pissed because we are missing out on points. I’m pissed because I really like the kid and I’m sure he’s disappointed.

No doubt, very disappointed for Creighton - I think he deserved an at-large. The reality is that he beat Meyer h-t-h -- what better determiner could there be if they were neck and neck in the Committee's eyes?

My comment is solely directed at the OP's assertion that only taking 9 is a major blow to PSU's Championship chances.

just remembered it was wyatt sheets who wrestled on a torn acl last year after getting in as an alternate. he placed too.
It was an awesome moment for real ... but selfishly, I couldn't fully appreciate it cause of who he got the forfeit against (obviously no shade against Sheets at all, he beat some solid opponents, heck he won 4 matches before the Blood Round, winning 4 matches guarantees you AA if you were any seed 1 through 31)

Heartbroken for Creighton and candidly, this sucks for the team race perspective. Would Creighton have gone 0-2 anyways? Based on his results this year, yeah, probably but every opportunity matters.

Has anyone taken a pencil to the Edsell vs Meyer comparison based on criteria? I haven't, but will if it has not been done, to see the justification. I do know the first 25% (HTH) goes to Edsell.

Math aside, I feel for the kid. The national tourney is an amazing experience for the wrestlers. He'll be there surely as a warm-up partner, which will be good for him too.

I haven’t. Is there a win % criteria? That would go to Creighton as well and it’s not even close. His 1-2 conference tourney record did him no favors I’m told. So there’s that…

So it pretty much came down to coaches ranking??? Rankings that Willie said many coaches don’t even do themselves. They pass it off to secretary’s, office staff or even janitors if they are free because its beneath them. Lmao.

Ok thank you. Not sure about their RPI but both Meyer and Edsell were 1-2 at conference tourneys.
Sadly, without the benefit of hindsight, the post below was made prior to Big Ten's. As typed below, with Valencia and Fomato losing, they took at-large's that would have gone someone else's way. Then going 1-2 didn't help against the likes of Fish and Meyer.

Of course it is all of our hopes that Edsell earns one of the seven spots allocated to the Big Ten. To do so means defeating a Fish, Wilson, Lohrey, Braunagel-level wrestler along the way at Big Ten's. If that doesn't happen, here's a few thoughts;

Imo Edsell must win two matches at the Big Ten Championship to finish one spot out of seventh if he doesn't earn an NCAA berth outright. That would give him a decent RPI, which he doesn't have right now at 13 bouts.

Then we must hope that none of these guys lose in their conference tournament, as all will be ahead in at-large criteria: Bullard, Wentzel, McCoy, O'Toole, Weber, Yant, Hall, Marinelli, Amine, Kharchla, Hamiti, Hartman, Ogunsanya, Ramirez, Conigliaro, Smucker. Olejnik, Valencia, Wick, Formato. That's 20 wrestlers.

Then we look at the guys that can help by earning a spot at NCAA's. This list includes; Barczak, Meyer, Revano, Eyler and Mosley. These guys would be in competition with Edsell for at-large, and if they make it on their own, can be removed from the equation, even though right now the criteria may favor Edsell when compared to several of these guys (read below).

The last two paragraphs are the unknowns, so we'll just have to see. A couple other points. Fish (MSU) didn't earn an allocation spot for the conference, so he's one of the guys looking for an outright AQ spot or at-large later. Wittlake (OSU) didn't earn his conference an AQ spot, so stealing one from a guy that did will amount to a nearly sure at-large spot for the Big-12.

To recap;
-- winning the spot outright is the best scenario
-- going 0-2 or 1-2 is unlikely to end with an at-large spot
-- Going 2-2 and placing 8th gives a better than 50-50 shot, as I like him (right now) over Barczak, Revano, Eyler and Mosley if they are in the picture for at-large.

Going 1-2 was good enough to get Meyer in. Of course, EIWAs is a bit tougher than BIGS…. Lol

Are you actually a fan of this team, or does your sense of self worth simply rely a little too much on whether or not they win the championship? :rolleyes:

Back to ignore you go.

Haven't an f'n clue what you're talking about. I think Creighton deserved an at-large and am very disappointed for him. But claiming it is some huge setback for the team in regards to PSU winning the National Championship (which the OP I responded to did) is absurd.

Lol. Funny. A former asst coach at ODU just told me how the coaches call each other to work out deals to rank their kids higher to get them at large spots into the tourney. I was mostly playing in the above post remembering comments Willie made about the coaches rankings. If it were me, I throw them out from now on.

What team (s) do you hold up as well rounded?
Iowa. But too many injuries. Michigan wrestled far over their heads last week and they will need more bonus with only 2 wrestlers providing it. Penn State wins but it will be a hell of a lot closer than it ever should have been if we didn't have our customary hole at 125 and that hole at 165

And for the record Jeff, you are more than a few years older than I am, so I wouldn't run that old man gif so often

You consider 125 a hole for us but not 184 for Iowa? Lolllllol
