at NW campus today - a couple interesting experiences

saw Fitz having breakfast with a couple dudes looking like recruits.

then held the door for a young woman (probably around 35) and she said just go ahead man - don't need your help. total bitch.

Lol...what’s the 2nd experience have to do with Northwestern?

So what is the etiquette if you get to a revolving door at the same time as a woman? If you let her go first, she has to open the door. If you go first, you are not being mannerly.

Perplexing.

The proper response is "I know you don't need my help, I was just hoping you'd enjoy my manners and that I could jump your bones at some future date. For now, I'll just have to settle for making 20% more."

If this wasn't your response, try it. Let me know how it goes. :p

If the door is already in motion, the woman enters first. If it is not, the man.
fairgambit Exception: If the woman is Elisabeth Shue, I would let her go 1st and squeeze in with her.:)

Did you get a look at their new indoor practice facility?

Was walking into Kohls today and at this store the only door includes handicap button. (Small Kohls)
As I walk up to the door, I step back and tell the lady behind me - here, let me get the door for you. I proceed to press the button and the door opens automatically. She chuckles and thanks me.

Good news is it upset you for 5 minutes. She has to spend her entire life being insufferable.

Also, I hold the door when I arrive first regardless of gender, so I'd tell her to skip the narcissism, it's certainly not because there's anything special about you.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a small child or a senior citizen.....it’s common courtesy to hold a door for someone coming up behind you.

If someone ahead of you holds a door for you, it’s deserving of a THANK YOU no matter if that person is young or old, male or female.

Common courtesy.....a courtesy that’s unfortunately not as common as it once was and unfortunately one that is on the decline.

Similar thing happened to me a while back. Young lady said that I did not need to hold the door open because of who she is. I told her I held the door open because of who I am.
Are you James Bond by chance? Tres Gallant!

Have yet to receive a rude response for holding the door... knowing me, i'd just tell her not to worry, next time i'll slam it shuit in her face. booooom! lol

but i digress... i'm always surprised by how many peeps hold the door at the gym [maybe if i put the cane away?? lol]. if only the same folks were as polite with the equipment... ahhh, but it's a good start!

I want to judge this woman... but it really depends on the situation.

Did you see Fitz with recruits in his home eating breakfast after you broke in?

Was the woman wearing a blue uniform leading you out the door of said house?

I will always hold the door open for a woman...and usually men as well. It is called being a gentleman. I also say yes sir and yes ma'am...even to people younger than myself. It is a show of respect. I think if folks in general showed each other more respect we would be better. off.

I am not sure why a woman would not want a man being a gentleman...but to each their own. I will keep being a gentleman.

Or just a kind human being...I am certain I was a door man in another life! :)

Nine out of ten Big 10 girls are hot.....the 10th goes to Northwestern.

She was either raised by a single mom, or her dad is a cuck.

Thanks 'Ro. This is, IMHO, one of the best and most useful posts I've ever read on this board. I used this last night at a nice local four star restaurant. The reaction was that the gal ended up reacting with a mix of annoyance and respect. Clearly, she didn't get the fight (probably not the right word but she was clearly hoping for a reaction) and kind of melted into this surrender. She was kind of stunned, taken aback, and then game me a "well, ok then" and accepted my gesture. Sometimes, a simple little post goes a long way.

Sorry, I didn't give you credit. My wife and her sister saw it and laughed...I didn't want to say "honey, I got this from a guy who goes by the name psuro who posts photos of really hot women". It would kind of ruined the moment!

Regardless, thank you for being you.

Odd that she thinks that every act should be based on whether the recipient "needs" it or not. I assume that she is projecting and never performed an act of kindness (or respect) unless it was required of her.

Interesting... for this particular courtesy, I think it is more prevalent than I can ever remember. I've always held doors for everyone, and I'd say in the last 10+ years (and not just because of my age!), I notice people of all ages doing so as well, far more often than not. I notice the exception, when people don't hold the door for others, and it seems to rarely happen.

Maybe the city or locale plays a part, I don't know. Or maybe people see me and just think 'farte d'olde probably can't open the door on his own; better help him or we'll be here all day.'
