...when a football player has a season-ending injury - before the season begins - I believe they can put that player on a "medical scholarship" type of list that allows them to give money to another player ...

...is it possible that Nevills can continue to receive his scholarship $$$'s as a medical casualty because he is out for the year, AND...

...that Jan Johnson - who has no football money as a walk-on - can be given Nevills' wrestling scholarship $$$'s for this year?...

...jes wunderin'...

Johnson cannot receive money from the wrestling team or it will count against the football team. That was a loophole closed some time ago. Some football teams would gain the benefit of soccer players or wrestlers getting a scholarship in that sport.

The football team has room. The question is two fold. One, whose business is it? Two, are you going to take money away from a kid who got hurt doing what he was supposed to be doing? One would think starters would get something. Maybe Franklin takes care of him next year. It really isn't anyone's business....but it is interesting to speculate.;)

Srath ,he didn't say anything about taking money away. He asked about extra money.

...I know that any athlete playing football cannot receive $$$'s from another sport...

...that was not my point ... neither did I speculate that any $$$'s given to Jan would come at Nevills's expense...he would continue getting "medical" $$$'s...

...but if Jan left the football team for the 2nd semester - essentially the wrestling season - could he be given some $$$s as an incentive?...

So what you're really asking is if scholarships can be split between semesters.

No. Below is a portrayal of SEC schools complying with he spirit of that rule:

...certainly football or other scholarship sport athletes who enter school in January receive aid for that semester...

I think this "medical scholarship" thing alluded to in football is for CAREER ending injuries?
A school can honor the 'ship, but take the player off the 85 count, never to return.

SEC schools have been accused of taking advantage of this rule to "cut" older players who weren't going to crack the line-up, to free up an extra 1-2 'ships for the incoming class. Since 'ships were "1 year contacts" [usually renewed, but not always], the player either chose to see the writing on the wall & continue w/free education or have his money pulled anyway & become essentially a walk-on.

I believe PSU did this w/Adam Taliaferro [as the rule was meant to be]?
