Attaboy Cael

Sorry if this is a repost in another thread but thought Cael's five on two of the Russians and corruption was pretty cool. H/T to Finematerial. No punches pulled.

I wish Cael would tell us how he really feels instead of holding back like that. :D

Hopefully it causes a reaction or at least some movement by USAW, but personally I doubt it.

New drinking rule: drink every time Cael says "unacceptable." I'm woozy just thinking about that.

Truth be known if they listen to anyone it will be Cael...He knows that and that is exactly why he was so straight forward about all the corruption especially in Russia !!!! This interview has already made it to the committee....That is how much respect he has around the world !!!! Guy is amazing...We are sooo lucky to have him....

Might it be said that Cael is putting a FULL COURT PRESS on the matter?

Yeah, I know, was playing dumb ... But really, we will never be the highest bidder -- and if we were to come close, we won't match the cyanide-tipped umbrellas and tea with uranium sugar cubes.

Needless to say, were I to be named President of United World Wrestling tomorrow, one of the first things I would do is put Cael in charge of writing the rules. Make #NotLionAround go global.

Class indeed.

Great level-headed responses from Cael. Didn't sugar coat the problems. Laid out a path for potential improvements and had high praise for Molinaro and Gomez for their outstanding efforts and contributions to the sport.

If change is to be made, here's guessing that the calm, direct, practical approach from Cael will resonate with many around the world.

I really, really like our head coach, and in fact the entire coaching staff...but coach's words, as pointed as they were, will do little to change the culture of other countries. What he's referencing (as far as corruption) is huge, and systemic and institutional in scope.

What the words confirm to me is the character of the man, and that our program is in good hands.

To put it bluntly, the only way to have systemic change at UWW is a few well-placed Satchel Charges or a Fuel Air Explosive detonated right above HQ. Good luck otherwise.

I thought he conveyed that clearly as well. Talked about the judges who got yanked showing no reaction, about the wrestlers who benefited walking around laughing, looked like they didn't think anything was wrong. He laid that all out as point of fact, don't think he spoke like that culture could change or that wrestling should try to change it. But then he moved on from there to suggest where change could happen: given that....the only way around a culture of cheating is for wrestling to change its rules to tightly minimize the space that Subjectivity is allowed to play in.

But yeah, we both loving hearing him speak.

One step in the right direction:

EDIT: I just now got to read the article, and it's even bigger than I thought -- they're re-testing past samples, using current technology to catch previously undetectable drugs -- from at least as far back as 2008.

Even Mike Evans might be impressed.
