AU fan coming up next week…

Another AU fan here, super pumped about this trip. Any recs on parking would be greatly appreciated. We will be coming in mid day Sat from the Pittsburgh area.
If you get in mid day you may be too late.
You can park downtown near the Nittany Mall or near the airport and take a bus service in.

My advice:

hit downtown early around 10:30 for breakfast/lunch and hit one or two bars at 11am before shit gets crazy.

go back to hotel and take a nap.

take the 2 mile walk to the ORV (overnight RV lot) and you will eat and drink as much as you want. All is good

toward game time head to stadium and strike up conversations with the tailgaters and you will receive more free food and liquor.

Regardless how you spend the day, you are going to experience an awesome time that very few SEC fans have ever experienced. And I think with the conference realignment BS, Auburn might be the last SEC team to travel north of the Mason Dixon line for a loooong time.

you are more than welcome at my RV tailgate. Just PM me if you want to stop by and eat and drink.
Awesome. Thank you kind Sir.

Mid day could be traffic jams. May want to consider parking at a plaza on South Atherton and take in a CATA bus. It was five bucks each way and they get through traffic well. They drop you off at the basketball arena an easy walk to stadium or parking lots. Bad news they end service an hour after the game so you can’t hang around d too long unless you find some one willing to drive you over.

But this means you aren’t tailgating at your car. If that is the plan you’ll need to buy a pass before hand and be very patient with driving in. Remember, State College is only 40,000, the student body is 45,000 and there will be 140,000 in and around the stadium. That’s a lot of people coming in.

Hit the link, scroll down to see a map of parking and a link to the CATA bus service.

Really looking forward to visiting Happy Valley next week. I’ve been to all of the SEC venues, most are pretty great. This will be a completely different animal. I know that it’s gonna be a madhouse, but any inside info on open tailgates and good bars would be greatly appreciated. I think that those of you that come down to Auburn will really like it. Thanks, War Eagle…
Be sure to walk through the RV overnight lot. It is amazing. I'm taking my daughter to the Auburn / PSU game next year. She is looking at going to school there.

#WeAre
#WooPigSooie (oldest daughter is a freshman there). She has been to two Whiteouts and said that last night Razorback Stadium was louder than a Beaver Stadium whiteout.
#WarEagle (if my middle daughter goes there!)

Btw. Still looking for 1 ticket to the game. AU would only dole out 2. Don’t care what section, probably wont sit down much anyway. I’ll stand/prowl like I always do. TIA

Familiar with Williamsport, like Bullfrog. There are a few decent places downtown, within walking distance of hotel.
I don't know your budget but there are usually some cancellations on Thursday morning before game weekends. You may get lucky and find a room somewhere much closer than Williamsport but it'll cost you your first child.

We are not planning to tailgate at the car. Really just want to check out campus and the downtown bar scene, walk around the stadium for a bit, then be parked somewhere that we can get out pretty quickly if its not a 4Q game and the AU fans are heading out early.

I was looking at paying up for a parking pass on the east side of the stadium off East Park. Looks like that may be the easiest exit. Mistake?

Do the shuttles run from stadium area back to downtown or is it only one way? I may have missed that in the link. TIA

Keller-
Not sure how old you are, but if you are old enough you are going to find a lot of similarities between State College/Penn State and Auburn/Auburn University- especially the Auburn of the 90's to early 2000's before the whole dang area exploded. People are about equally friendly in both places as well (excluding the young drunks). Both campuses are beautiful, but Beaver Stadium is not "surrounded" by as much as Jordan Hare, so you will see so much more tailgating. In fact, it will look like one large tailgate.

Since I no longer live in the area, and do not make it back as often as I would like, I will leave the advice to others. Suffice it to say I've been to War Eagle Supper Club (RIP) and Sky Bar more since any nightlife in SC. lol

Not sure what to expect from the game- other than a great game. Both teams still a bit of a mystery. PS is tested, but have to assume Harsin has been practicing since day 1 for this game. Tank is a Tank. Bo is streaky (as can be Clifford). I think the Lions should have enough to win at home though. But I've seen too many Auburn games that defy logic to be comfortable (Kick Six, the bounce reception against UGA). Just excited for a great match up!

Lastly, forgive my Nittany Lion brethren and friends beforehand for their love affair with the Crimson Tide. PS and UA are tied together from history, and (until Saban) mirrored each other fairly well, so it is understandable. But, they have only met the good ones. They have not had to live among the others...... the WalMart (or Dollar General) variety.

I think you will enjoy your time! I am headed north too... look for me, I will be the one in white.

Williamsport has historical 'Millionaires Row' downtown and a museum. It was the 'Lumber Capital of the World' in 1890 - 1910. There were more Millionaires living there per population than any where in the world.
Because almost nobody lived there and they had a millionaire. Lol

Ha. Im 61, been around for a while. I’m actually from Indiana, played bball at NC State, then transferred to AU. Grew up an AU football fan, fathers BF had a place on Lake Martin. Still an IU basketball junky at heart. It’s in my blood…

If your plan is to get out quickly don’t park in any stadium/university lot. Getting there mid day will mean you get parked at the far end of the lots and will wait over an hour to get out. For night games I have slept in car for a couple hours before heading out. Wake up at four or five am and drive right out.

Best to use the busses. Yes they run both ways and will run for an hour after the game. They can get you to your car quickly and by parking in a remote lot you will have no traffic problems.

Did you play for Jimmy or Norm?

Are you coming with a parking pass already in hand? Just so you know you cannot pay for parking at the stadium lot locations. Parking passes must be paid for in advance and the pass must be in hand before you can enter a lot surrounding the stadium. Passes can be purchased day of game (subject to availability) at Innovation Park which is about a mile east of the stadium. That said, there are several parking decks on campus where you can pay cash and park but they fill up pretty quickly.

Final option is to find a place to park in the town of State College which is on one side of East College Ave (commercial district) with the University occupying the opposite side of College Ave. You can walk up to the stadium if you park near the commercial area of State College. Google maps is your friend for getting the lay of the land for the town of State College and how its situated to the university (University Park)

Eff that. Meyer Dairy is best in town
I agree. It's just that it's not really in town, more on the edge. For those with limited means of transportation on an extremely busy weekend the Creamery is much more convenient.
Because it’s tradition, damn it! Just like a fullback! Or the I formation! Just do it and don’t ask questions!

No No No!! Take you and your fans and team, stay on the bus, forfeit the game. We'll mail you the check. Don't want none of that real college fussball stuff round these parts... y'all hear?

LOL.

Can't wait to tee it up with auburn and sort things out. Hope you have a great time and are treated with respect wherever you venture. This is the kind of game that makes CFB so special and we welcome you to Happy Valley!

Nothing personal, but I also hope you go home a little sad, too :)
